Mantic on Kickstarter

(1/8) > >>

DariusZero:
Guys in Mantic decided to speed up their releases of new minis, so they turned to the internet community for support. and they got it allright. People responded with great enthusiasm.

If you want to help them too:

Justnorth:
Wow, that is amazing.
I'm stunned by the colossal support they are getting.
I didn't think that would happen, at least not to that extent.
Way to go Mantic.
Brave but ultimately clever use of kickback.
Pay it forward.

Timbor:
Im still not exactly sure how this works - kinda like a preorder where you pay in advance, and then they make stuff the fans want (like the liberty and union league or whatever from wargames factory?)

WallyTWest:
I think that this company is uncanny.

*Thumbs up to Mantic!  :closed-eyes:

@Timbor - Kickstarters are a form of funding where the company gets a ton of capital, and the backers get a ton of reduced-price or exclusive stuff from the company in return... for example, after the chariot gets added, the $100 pledge level will have about $160 worth of stuff in it... a number which will only rise as more stretch goals get added, and more free stuff gets piled on top. They're also doing a "buy one get one free" deal if you pre-order the new werewolves and ogres as bolt-ons.

It works out much better as a source of funding than a bank loan, which has to be paid back with hard cash, doesn't guarantee that the models will sell in advance, and has to have interest paid on it. This is the main reason why I like these crowdfunding efforts, they are basically a giant middle finger in the direction of investment bankers.

Their human army is coming out early next year, if this goes well we might get another source of figures to play with, and on proper plastic sprues rather than just resin plastic.

They've already funded their Ogre Army, with 2 boxes being released - one for hand weapon/ great weapon ogres, and another for crossbow/blunderbuss ogres, which might be interesting. Werewolves are funded too, and the Orc Chariot is on it's way.

It's a good thing that humans are going to be the last army they produce, it's given them time to sort out their sculpting quality, and also pay attention to their sprue design after their entire fanbase has been shouting "no more 2-part models" at them for the past 3 years. :P

New plastic goblins are certainly looking quite nice, with seperate arms and heads on all models instead of that 2-piece model nonsense that plagued their earlier sprues:

With any luck, the human army will turn out just as good!
