I'm not quite sure how to feel about this yet but GW is putting some of their products up on iTunes now.

Was just coming to post this....haha. Nice to see them getting on board - not so nice that they're still pricey (10 bucks less for the electronic version of the SM codex?)

Yeah I guess it's only for ipads and such which kinda sucks because I hate apple products. A lot of the storm of magic and white dwarf articles they were putting up is pretty aggravating too because I was expecting to see it for free on their website but beggars can't be choosers I guess.

I think it's great when digital releases are done right.

I love Paizo Publishing (publishers of Pathfinder) for example.

Nice try GW, better luck next time.

I pay for content and will definately get all things Warhammer - too bad it is all about SM and painting now.

Having my Ipad with me instead of books will be awesome especially when you can add text and stuff of your own to these ebooks.

Has anyone looked at the outrageous prices yet?  It better be fully interactive if it costs the same as a paper copy.

If anyone gets Codex:Space Marines I want to know if it is actually worth it.

I am suprised they are not charging the same price for the digital copy Clarkarias.  Ive seen digital books more expensive than hardbacks.

If you look at the video, there is actually more content in the digital version and the option to add stuff.

Of course it is still marines but no surprise, they are the cash in the company.

Have to say that imo that would have to be the best thing about it. Hopefully they will actually be updated when FAQ's come out. So I'm actually giving GW a  :eusa_clap:

The price of the new books is totally absurd.  I used to purchase every army book when they would come out,  now that the dumb fuckers raised the prices to the point where I just wont buy them anymore,  which is less profit for GW.
I can't imagine how they could offer the army rules in digital format for less as it would compete with the printed product they paid money to send to all the stores for sale.

So a +1 for going digital!  I'll definitely purchase the Empire book in digital format

-1 for the $45 army book prices.  Cmon you fucking bean counters get real!

I concur.  I love Steve Jackson Games's model, which I think is similar to Paizo's: expensive, beautiful hardback book or much cheaper PDF.  And for the record, GW, I've bought both!  And SJG made money on both!  Get with the times!

As soon as GW decides to strike a deal with Google Play or a company that is not Apple, I'll likely purchase the products, but not until then. I like the idea though, since even if I purchase the printed copy of a book, I still find a high quality pdf copy to download, bookmark and comment in on my tablet.

From the GW web page:

Order it for your iPad

At this point, I don't get that exclusive use of technology. It's like saying, "buy the new such-and-such-band CD, playable only on one brand of stereo."

I hate Apple for their business model.  I don't have any Apple products, let alone the iPad, which I never saw a use for.  So by releasing these PDFs in Apple format only, they're cutting themselves off from a segment of their market.  I don't get it.

I don't have anything against Apple. I even bought my wife an iPhone for Christmas. But for my own purchases, I've just always found other options that better suit my needs/preferences.

It's like another case of GW doing something half-assed, then wondering why sales aren't stellar.

The price is, of course, the second let down. The thing is, if someone really wants a PDF and doesn't care if it's pirated, they can get that. So the concept (or at least a big part of it) behind selling a legitimate PDF should be to entice everyone to get one legally, and turn a profit while doing so. Keeping the price high, near that of the hardback printed version, really doesn't seem "enticing."

I absolutely adore my NEcron Codex.  The price was the same as the regular book.  I think the Spacemarine one was so high because it included the "How to paint Spacemarine" book on top of the rule book.

It is a very slick presentation, has additional illustrations, many of which are the color version of the black and white ones from the paper book.  The 3d models are a nice touch, but the ability to just tap an item and have its rules pop up makes things super easy.

As for Apple, I detest them, but when my Droidx bricked after the last Android update, I went with an iPhone.  I prefer the iPhone in almost everyway.  Combined with my iPad, one of the best electronic purchases I have ever made, it is so easy to do most things.  What I dislike is that I can't just use it as a mass storage device.  But it is easy to use, very high quality, and integrates with the phone very nicely.

I do hope Samsung kicks Apples fucking ass in these court trials.  Apple didn't create any of the devices it is suing over.  It refined them, but they act like they created all of it.

I've mentioned previously that I've got mixed feelings on Mantic's minis and the early pkaytest version of the rules I read a while back. But I still keep an eye on them, and I'm on their mailing list.

Well, as anyone else on their list has presumably noticed, they have also gone digital with their rules, and appear to be doing a better job with it. For around $15 I can download a watermarked PDF of their full Kings of War rulebook, which is a tempting enough offer that will draw me into giving it a shot.
