Hello,

How have the three units of knights been doing? I've been hesitant to use cavalry of any sort. Also do the mortars earn their points back? Strength 2 against, lets face it, mostly toughness 4 armies doesn't look that great to me.

Good luck.

Champion,

The Knights worked well. They soaked up alot of hits and still stuck around. Could use a bit more punch(ran with Lance and Shield) but over all a must have. Usually 2 units would die but not before they destroyed a warmachine or got in an important flank charge. They were also valuable holding a weak flank long enough to reposition other forces. Next time I will take more. 5 Knights are not capable of taking on anything besides warmachines or fast cav by themselves and need to be used with support or as a larger stand alone unit.

I dropped the Mortars for 2 Cannons. The Cannons were gold. They destroyed a VC "Mortis Engine" and a couple of chariots on the day. I got to use Grape Shot shot twice with moderate results(nothing to sniff at).

Best,

Whit

Two cannons and one mortar should perform better in all scenarios.  I would combine knights to have a 10-man and a 5-man unit and give one of them great weapons (probably the 5-man) for some punch against monstorous infantry/cav.  Also i would suggest dropping the 20 halberd detachment and substituting them for 12 handguns.  The handguns will be good for erasing small chaff units.  Lastly, its my opinion that at 1500, you should consider a more offensive lore like Fire or maybe metal if you're expecting Warriors/Ogres/Brets.  This is not to say the Heavens sig spell isnt worth it, but with only one level 2 caster, Fireball will have a greater impact at 1500pts.

Mr Rotten Treats,

Excellent points.

The lack of any sort of shooting besides warmachinces was noticed. Enemy chaff units were rather effective for this very reason. The Handgunners and Mortar would have allowed for more attrition prior to the main engagement which would have made the comabt more one sided.

Heavens Magic was rather lack luster, Fire would have been a better choice at this points level and perhaps overall.

Whit.

Light has been better than Heavens for me at 1500. As much as I like Heavens it hasn't quite been pulling it's weight (except for the game where Comet of Cassandora killed about half a Chaos Dwarf army). I've been finding cheap magic missiles are more useful than small hexes. Part of it could be my army composition and my opponents though.

1. The size of his codpiece
2. The amount of skulls he carries
3. The length of his feather

Hmm, only one combat unit? I realize the point level but there's little redundancy. Of course stubborn detachments can hold off enemies for a while but can they actually kill? I'm also surprised that 5 Knights can hold a flank on their own. I'd wager they would often struggle to overcome static CR alone.

Lastly, 5 knights with GW? What punch can we expect from the two or three guys that remain after those elites or monsters have struck? They certainly have their uses but punch or taking on strong enemies on their own is not one of them.
Some German words are so long that they have a perspective. Whenever I come across a good one, I stuff it and put it in my museum.
