Need some help making a tournament list

(1/3) > >>

La Guerra:
I need a little help in making a list for an upcoming tournament and was hoping you fine generals could give me a hand.  Things have to be painted so I am only looking at the models I currently have painted in case I don't have time to paint (which I'm sure I will).  So basically this is everything I have painted and it comes to almost 3400 points and I'm looking for some help figuring out how to bring it down to 2500 while working well in a tournament (which will be my first).

Here it goes:

Lords
General of the Empire - Barded Warhorse, FPA, Shield, Lance   138
Battle Wizard Lord - Lvl. 4, Lore of Death            200

Heroes
Warrior Priest - Heavy Armor, Shield            69
Captain of the Empire - FPA, Pistol            71
Captain of the Empire - FPA, Shield            68
Master Engineer   , Repeater Pistol, Pigeon Bombs         95

Core
Swordsmen x 30, FC                  240
Free Company x 10 - Detachment            60

Swordsmen x 20 FC                  170

Spearmen x 30, FC                  180

Handgunners x 20,  Marskman w/ Hochland Long Rifle      210
Archers x 10 - Detachment               70

Handgunners x 20                  180

Knights of the White Wolf x 8, FC               206

Special
Greatswords x 30, FC                  360
Flagellants x 20, Prophet of Doom            250
Pistoliers x 10, Outrider w/ Repeater Pistol         200
Great Cannon                     120
Mortar                        100

Rare
Steam Tank                     250
HBVG                        120

Total   3357

I have some time to paint up a few more models but I'm not sure what would go good with the rest, so if you have any suggestions please let me know.

MrAbyssal:
I won't do the full list but I can certainly give you a starting point:

General with Dawnstone and Crown of Command

Warrior priest

Greatswords with 15 Swords from your unit of 20 as a detachment

Both units of 30 Swords though may be better making one of 40 with a detachment (If only they were halberdiers)

White Wolves

Engineer (don't pay for the Pidgeon Bombs) and the Helblaster

Great Cannon

White Wolves

I would recommend also painting up a Battlestandard and maybe a mounted priest

Death is okay but would be worth painting up a wizard from a better lore. Shadows, Light, Life and Heavens are probably the best lores for an Empire Wizard. Some people swear by Metal and Beasts isn't bad either.

If you have room I also recommend the Flagellants.

That should give you a solid foundation, obviously with some tweaking and personalisation.

Thanks for the input, here's an updated list.

   Crown of Command                  191

Master Engineer, w/ Repeater Pistol               75

Core
Swordsmen x 40 Regimental Unit, FC               310
Halberdiers x 20 Detachment                  120

Knights of the White Wolf x 8, FC                  206

Special
Great Cannon                        120
Greatswords x 30 FC, Regimental Unit               360
Spearmen x 15 w/ Shields, Detachment               90

Helblaster Volley Gun                     120

I don't have enough swordsmen to give them as a detachment to the Greatswords so I used Spearmen instead.  I think I can paint up 20 halberdiers for the swordsmen detachment.  And I figured the Pistoliers would be good for exploiting vulnerable flanks or Warmachine hunting so I could keep my general closer to my infantry for Leadership Bubble.

MrAbyssal:
if you wanted to do some points shuffling you could give the Greatswords the banner of Discipline (15pts) to give them and their detachment Ld 9 (while stubborn) and maybe for the knights the Gleaming Pennant (5pts) for a Ld test re-roll in case they're out of range of the battle standard.

Other good items are Luckstone (useful for BSB, 5pts), Shrieking Blade (10pts) and Helm of the Skavenslayer (15pts) for causing fear (and hence making it so you're not affected by fear) and a Dispel Scroll for the Wiz. All depends one where you can find the points for them though.

Run the swords as a Bus and it'll be a pretty solid all-round army.

La Guerra:
Thanks for the great advice. I tried out the list in a friendly game and it worked great. Pretty much every unit did something awesome. I'm looking forward to trying it out in the tourney.
