Need a good starting list

I have been playing tk for a really long time. Time for a new army. Any suggestions on a quick 1k army. I am going to eventually be attending 2400/3k tournaments.  I want to buy stuff that works early and later on. Yes, I plan on being a jerk. Too long I have been strolling in the sands.

Well sense you haven't given us any thing to work with you can't expect us to just write you a list and be like here you go. There is no end all be all with empire. There versatility is their strength and their weakness. Rather than be a douche and tell you to go out and buy the codex and read the forum stickies about posting army list before posting what you did. I am going to be as constructive with this as possible and help you build an army list of 1000 points. I am going to ask you some question to get the ball rolling and see where we can take this.

First and foremost do you have the codex? I don't mean a free rip off the net as half the time they are missing points or some important rule and you wont be able to play properly. I mean the real deal because if you play the hobby and enjoy it you might as well support it. I'm assuming you do, so have you read through it? What catches your eye? Knights? Warrior Priests? Swordsmen? Great swords? Perhaps the Idea of a state amuses you Midden Land or Talabheim perhaps? Magic isn't a bad place to start as well. Maybe pick a Lore and a wizard lord and see what the codex offers in that direction. Another Idea is how do you play your Tomb Kings? I know you wont be raising the dead left and right with the Empire but maybe you really enjoy shooting with large groups of archers or perhaps combat with chariots and knights is your thing?

Thats all I have for you so let me know and we will go from there.

Maybe not so much of a list. But whats a good place to start with core. Yes I do have the book. I am sure theres better core options than others. Maybe this belongs in a tactice section? Idk. I just hate building the wrong thing. It would be nice to build halberds, and kept halberds. Not hate myself over a bad decesion

MrAbyssal:
Halberdiers are always a good start. At 1000 points I'd start with 30, with a detatchmet of Free Company or more Halberdiers and a Warrior Priest. A Great Cannon is always good and maybe a Wizard. Something like 6 knights as a flanking unit (to be built on later) and maybe some Handgunners or Crossbowmen to pick off chaff and fast cavalry.

The Battallion box really is actually a good starting point. Then just need more state troops and some characters. For expanding it's worth looking at more knights, more war machines, the Celestial Hurricanum, War Altar, Steam Tank, Greatswords, more state troops, Flagellants and more state troops.

The key units at any point level where you can fit them are Warrior Priests, Battle Standard Bearer, Celestial Hurricanum, Greatswords and Halberdiers. For your wizard lore look for good augment and hex spells. Don't worry as much about the medium/basic damage spells. General/Captains are also handy for Hold the Line.

Newt:
If you want to be a jerk dont play the empire.  No one fears an empire player anymore.   An ogre army may be more of your style...youve got the hell heart, best shooting in the game, and hard hitting troops...
