Pirate goblins on indiegogo
« on: July 11, 2012, 02:52:31 AM »
Just saw these:

http://www.indiegogo.com/pirate-goblins?c=home

Looks like a chap in france is hiring kev adams to sculpt some goblinoid pirates.  I think I could go for a few of those, having caught Kev Adams fever recently.

Maybe we should get white knight to do something like this?

I've seen those guys before  :engel:

The only thing I didn't like about those was that too many seem to be dressed like admirals.  Not enough seadogs and swabs...

I agree. Especially since they come in packs, so if you buy more you get more admiral looking gobbos.

Hi, I'm the guy who did commissionned kev adams for the goblins and did launch the indiegogo campaign.

The first 2 you are seing now are dressed like admirals as they are the Captain and his Second, the 4 others to come are the crew so they will be dressed like sailors !

Keep an eye on the Indiegogo page to see updates as I'll post pictures as soon as I have them.

Bruno

PS : I do know of the Black Scorpions Ones but they are really not to my taste, I do like the grinning faces that only Kev Adams knows hot to do well !

I think the two ranges will compliment each other nicely.

Well... he is the "Goblinmaster," isn't he?

Unfortunately I sold my goblin collection, otherwise I'd be all over this. But I wish you luck. They look good so far.

'Duck-foot' is a term I have heard used to describe such things. Dangerous to everyone, including the wielder.

The one with the peg leg is almost done, and as you may see the next one will also be dressed like a simple sailor !

EDIT: So, has anyone ever posted anything when they've woken up in a bad mood and regretted it.   :icon_redface:
Well this is my moment. Not sure rules on deleting posts so I have kept original comment below. Though I wish to say its not very interesting and the criticism is very limited in its validity. So move along, nothing to see here.

(Who I am to rain on someone elses parade. Kudos to Treps for replying to a pretty rude post with a reasoned PM.)

No offence intended to Treps but this is a poor project:

1: Jumped the gun: there is only 5 figures available, and three had not been scupted. Not even any concept art.

2: Very expensive compared to competitors such as blackscorpion, and $6/£4 ea is apparently a reduced price. (Obviously if you compare to GW/Foundry they are a bargain :icon_rolleyes:)

3: No great incentives - if he sells 170 sets some random guy will sign a cardboard box for me?!

I see no issues with using kickstarter/Indegogo as a pre-order system, but at least offer a good deal and have something to sell. I really think this could have been executed better. Looks like he just saw Stonehaven Miniatures / Studio McVey kick starter and saw the $$$ signs in his eyes.

@Treps: You mention you want to expand the range, but by putting up a request for crowdfunding when you have not even produced a single figure, not one cast model, one master or production mould, no concept art and only two greens undermines any confidence I (as a potential customer) has in your capacity to do so. This is a shame as Kev's sculpts look great.

I hope you receive some funding, really I do, but I dislike the direction these projects are going. They are not being used to raise funds necessary to green light a project but simply as a pre-order system. Now it seems the projects are both increasingly unfinished and with no great incentive. Eventually some people are going to get burnt.

For example: This project could have been created for the price of the deposits on two sculpts (so circa £150), and half an hour to sign up to Indegogo. There is no way I'd pay $6 a figures to someone I know nothing about, figures that have not been created or even sketched yet, and that will not be availalbe for four months! What am  getting in return for this risk?

Updated picture, with a new gobelin done sculpting.

We also made some changes to the second one, by turning his head so that he looks more in the direction of his gun and with a crow on shoulder

Wow, that came along rather quickly.  Like I said, I am in for 2 sets, but am putting some feelers out in my gaming area for other interested parties, maybe we will do a bigger group order.

So there are 6 sculpted.  Any plans to sculpt more poses?  A warband of 15-20 pirates would be swell...  :engel:

As for your future plans of pirate dwarfs, will they look similar to the Long Drong's slayer dwarfs?

Fantastic we also informed all goblin players we know...and by we I again mean the busy Weib.

 :engel:

Fantastic concept and great execution.
Dwarves....
yeah, they really are comically small. Still, all that matters is that you're happy doing them.

I'm particularly fond of his Little Billy Landsknecht.

Thanks for all this positive feedback, it's pleasant to see that people like them !

For multiple sets there is the $100 funding level with 5 sets.
If you need more than 5 sets contact me before so that I could add a level of funding with a better price.

Yes I do envisage to have a full crew, I just need to get back in my funds to commission Kev again to expand the range, we have already devised together some ideas for what the next ones could be like, the goal is having different miniatures with a unique look for each of them.

As for your future plans of pirate dwarfs, will they look similar to the Long Drong's slayer dwarfs?
I am working on the concept right now, the long drong are nice but as for the goblins, I want more variety with unique figures.

I did revised the goals and from now the 6th goblin (the captain) will be included with each complete set ($30 or more) if we reach the goal of $2500, we are almost half way with 40 days to go, I do believe that everybody will get it !

Nice!  I hope you meet the goal too!

I noticed that your goal of 5k includes free green 6-sided dice.  Did you ever consider making the dice and adding them as a perk you can buy, and then if you hit 5k you can add some more in for free?

I know I would be in for a set of green dice, even if I had to pay for them...

In fact this is something I intend to do from the start (with other things too), but, as there is still 39 days to go I want to keep some stuff under the hood to have things to says frequently to update the project and keep people interested ;)

Ah, well played, good sir!

I sincerely hope this project gets lots of support - maybe even as much support as these lacklustre (IMO) dwarfs?

I did bought a complete set (from the start when there were only 5 dwarfs in the pot), and they were really nice to put a link to my indiegogo campaign today in one of their update !

I do believe in micro-companies selling small ranges of miniatures and try to support this kind of initiatives ;)
