rewrote some of my ideas so here's the second draft, also the units partaking in the regimental rpg;
Background for Empire Army; The Averland Tilean regiment or The Crown Company
Coat of Arms; A crowned sun
Barracks (when they bother to actually stay there); Merfeld
Background; after ending up on the wrong side of Tilea’s mercenary war, Gregario Ursini and his company went into exile, sailing to the dwarven city of Barak Varr. However the Tileans didn’t tolerate the miserly dwarfs long as there was very little work for a human mercenary company when dwarves consider themselves superior. Thus they marched through the border princes fighting for various different lords and barons until they missed the comforts of civilization. Over the black mountains laid the rich province of Averland and Gregario led his men there and upon arrival they found a pitched battle between an army of greenskins and the Averland state army, courageously Gregario led his men in a daring attack upon the Black Orc commander Wug Big Stikka and his retinue . Slaying the warboss and his other commanders, Gregario and his men effectively caused the Greenskins to scatter and begin fighting amongst themselves. After the battle Gregario was presented to the leader of the Averlanders, none other than Count Marius Leitdorf himself. Upon meeting the leader of the unexpected force that helped win the battle Count Marius asked who they were and what they were doing in Averland? Gregario explained that they were a mercenary company exiled from Tilea and were trying to make some crowns, find a new place to live and preferably some wine. Count Marius laughed at the last point and immediately called for some wine and Gregario dined with the Count that night and by morning Marius had named the mercenaries a new state regiment to be called the Averland Tilean Guard.
The mercenaries were mixed in with the remnants of Averland regiments that had taken severe casualties, quickly changes occurred in how the regiment has fought and indeed dressed as many Tileans became as flamboyant as the Averlanders themselves, in terms of war many exchanged the pikes of Tilea for the Empirical halberds and greatswords but have retained their crossbows while also taking in many bergjaegers to act as scouts and skirmishers. The Tileans have also kept their God in Myrmidia bringing the warrior priest Raphael Di Norscio with them from Luccini. This has won them both suspicions of other state troops and allies in the knights of the blazing sun.
However the regiment have proven both their skill and loyalty to their newfound home, having fought wars for the nobles of Averland defending the towns and cities of Averland from Orcs, Goblins and the vile ratkin known as Skaven. The backbone of the army is men of Tilea but some parts of the army such as the cavalry have remained predominantly Averlanders and others have remained Tilean, specifically the crossbowmen who take fierce pride in their weapons. The mercenary tendencies still run thick though as can be seen in some of the regiment’s nickname the “Crown Company” due to their love of gold and customs such as the paymaster being an officer, the division of plunder and the independence that the regiment strives for. This independence can be seen with the frequency the Crown Company fights outside of Averland. On many different occasions they have fought in the border princes, defending the city of Nuln where they gained the friendship of the Imperial Gunnery school and even as far as Brettonia and their native Tilea.
Regimental RPG
Comandante Gregario “The Bear” Ursini- General of the Empire, Great Mace called “Finalita”, hand weapon, full plate armour, and shield
A bull of a man with an easy demeanour you could easily believe he is a gentle giant, however he didn’t earn the nickname of the bear purely for his size, he is a dangerous man and a veteran of almost three decades of war and battle. From the back streets of Tilea to the battlefields of Blackfire pass this man has never backed down from a fight and only lost a few. Loved by his men and hated by his enemies, he fought his way to the top of the crown company with nothing but his skill, strength and the ability to learn on his feet. Not a natural born tactician but his wealth of experience, charismatic inspiring presence and ability to pick out a good idea makes him an excellent leader. Although he has fought almost every possible foe he particularly loathes the treacherous and cowardly Skaven.
Capitano Luciano Gilletti- Company Paymaster and Battle Standard Bearer, sword, shield, and full plate armour
The other side of the crown to his comandante, Luciano is a small, wiry man with a meticulous tactician’s mind and an air of the mystique. Although many mistake his size as a disadvantage there is no better swordsman in the Crown Company than Luciano Gilletti. His commanding presence and the awe of his skill with a blade make the men follow him as with him the feel untouchable as he is making him the perfect battle standard bearer. Off the battlefield he is the shrewd tactician and Gregario’s right hand man in the company, his calculating analytical mind makes him the perfect paymaster. Although some of the men suspect that Luciano bleeds gold as he has such tight purse strings, this has yet to be proven as Luciano rarely lets a cut past his fencer’s guard.
Raphael Di Norscio-Warrior Priest of Myrmidia, heavy armour, shield, spear (I know it’s not normally an option but the spear is the weapon holy to Myrmidia), hand weapon, barded warhorse
As the Crown Company left Tilea they brought their beliefs with them, Raphael Di Norscio making sure of it. Company Chaplain and unofficially the regiment’s third officer this pious man had resigned himself to never again finding other men with his zealous beliefs in the Empire but he was amazed to find the Knights of the Blazing Sun, fellow worshippers of Myrmidia in the land of Sigmar. This has helped to fuel his divine fury and he channels this well into the hearts and minds of the men as he preaches Myrmidia’s teachings on the battlefield. Outside of battle he is a practical man and a teacher to all of the men, even those of different faiths, hosting sermons on a wide variety of subjects that interest and educate soldiers.
The Bear’s Halberds- 24 Halberdiers, Sergeant Bastian Hecht, standard bearer Jürgen Brummbar, musician Hector Truffa
The remnants of several Halberdier units were amalgamated to help form the Averland Tilean Guard, although some of them were sceptical coming into the regiment their fears were quickly squashed by Gregario Ursini. A rapport quickly developed between the Averlanders and theTileans. Both sides taught the others all they knew of warfare and this strengthened the bond of the regiment. To honour the efforts of their new commander, they adopted his personal standard as the standard of the halberdiers, the black bear now holding a halberd. The key men of this unit is the sergeant Bastian, a disciplined veteran of great skill at arms, the giant standard bearer Jürgen who is the only man to match Gregario in size and the joker of the pack Hector, regimental musician and the first Tilean to master the halberd.
Swords of the Sun- 24 Greatswords, Sergeant Mario Lametta, musician Antonio Vivaldi
The Swords of the Sun are the greatswords that protect the company’s standard and paymaster in times of battle. Carrying with them The Crowned Sun Banner of their regiment is a fierce source of pride for Averlander and Tilean alike, since the banner was presented to them by Count Marius upon the founding of their regiment. Trained by both Gregario and Luciano these greatswords are highly skilled, many of the Tileans had previously fought with Great Maces like Gregario and many of the Averlanders had previously fought as swordsmen but they have all adapted greatly to their new weapon and wield it with amazing skill. The sergeant Mario Lametti came from the same fencing school as Luciano the paymaster and as such they have fought together almost since childhood and trust each other with their lives.
The Redbows- 10 Crossbowmen, marksman Gino Scorrari
The signature ranged weapon of Tilean mercenaries play a big part of the Crown Company however only the finest of them are dedicated to the use of them in battle, although most of the soldiers are proficient in its use only the elite of them become the Redbows. The Redbows take fierce pride in their skill and have developed a strong rivalry with the scouts as the prominent marksmen of the regiment; indeed there is much debate in the army as to who is the better shot between Gino Scorrari and Sigmund Streiss. The Tileans bet on Gino, the Averlanders bet on Sigmund however the real winner is the regiment as they benefit from all the marksmen working hard to be the best.
Sigmund’s Scouts-10 Huntsmen, marksman Sigmund Streiss
Hunters, trappers and poachers all make up Averland’s famous Bergjaegers, led by the experienced Sigmund Streiss; Gregario recruited a unit of these to become his scouts and rangers. This decision has been proven wise time and time again as the scouts have aided the company in outfoxing many ambushes and in setting up many counter ambushes too. The leader Sigmund is a wise hunter with a lot of experience in tracking and scouting in all manners of enemy and terrain and this skill has benefitted the regiment numerous times allowing them to cut across terrain and show up to battle their foes days before they had any right to as well as allowing them to get into the most advantageous position for battle.
Myrmidia’s Glory-9 Knights of the Blazing Sun, lances, full plate, Preceptor Tolin Dundorf, Standard Bearer Karl Tapfer, and Musician Luca Fiocina
Just before a battle under the walls of Nuln, Raphael Di Norscio was delivering a sermon on how Myrmidia would protect those who fought with courage, honour and skill. This was noticed by the passing Knights of the Blazing Sun who so rarely see a priest of their faith and the sermon he delivered moved them, in their pious devotion the swore themselves to the priest’s side. Since that day the nine knights have accompanied Raphael to war. The preceptor of these knights, Tolin Dundorf, the son of a Stirland noble has been a wise voice in the war councils of the Averland Tilean Guard and while he doesn’t always approve of the more mercenary traditions of the company he has proved himself a loyal ally.
Great Cannon “Last Kiss”
During the battle for Nuln, Gregario and his halberdiers stormed the Imperial Gunnery school and cleared it of the Skaven and in thanks the Gunnery school gifted the regiment with 2 war machines and 2 crews, the regiment named the cannon the “Last Kiss” after watching it splinter a beastman chariot in one shot.
Helblaster Volley Gun “The Don”
Like the cannon, the Helblaster Volley Gun was a gift from the Imperial gunnery school of Nuln. The addition of the Volley gun has made the firepower of the regiment at range increasingly strong as the crew get more experience. The two crews have learned to use both guns with equal skill thus there is always competition between both crews to see who is the best with either gun.
