2200 Broken Empire - No comp
« on: August 20, 2012, 07:18:06 PM »
Hey guys,

This is a combined attempt of a friend of mine and myself to make a hard as nails tournament Empire list.  I'll be facing armies such as Ogers with double iron blasters and gut stars to Lizardmen with Slann (all bells and whistles).

Lord// Arch Lector
- War Altar
- Heavy Armour
- Enchanted Shield
- Talisman of Preservation
- Sword of Fear

Lord// Wizard Lord (life)
- Lv 4
- Dispel Scroll

Hero// Captain
- Pegasus
- Full Plate Armour
- Charmed Shield
- Dragon Bane Gem
- Potion of Foolhardiness
- Sword of Striking

Hero// Captain
- Battle Standard
- Full Plate Armour
- Shield
- Dragon Helm
- Warrior Bane
- Luck Stone

Core// 50 Halberdiers
- Command

Core// 12 Crossbowmen

Core// 12 Crossbowmen

Core// 10 Archers

Special// 4 Demygryph Knights
- Standard
- Banner of Flame

Rare// Steam Tank

Rare// Steam Tank

This is the basis we have so far.  The crossbowmen are there in groups of 12 because thats the approximate amount needed to remove 1 sabertusk.  The archers are the bunker for the wizard.  Any help to make this dirtier is appreciated as my opponents will have no remorse for the Empire.  ::heretic::

I'm not sure how competitive a war altar is anymore. I'm not saying its bad, but if you want a filthy list it's not amazing. It's a shame it's only 2200, as if you had a few more points to work with a hurricanium would be a must. As it is I think Stanks are amazing, but is not having a hurricanium worth not having a second stank...? I think I'd probably go for a stank and a 'canium, but then I've only got one stank.

I also wouldn't use life in a competitive list. it's a lot of points to invest basically just to get Dwellers. You'll win combats much more reliably with a decent hex or buff lore like light or shadow, plus it gives you great synergy with the hurricanium.

ICK are an better way of filling up your core tax than halbardiers, IMO - much more reliable for the points.

In every unit that fights you should have one general/captain and one AL/WP so that they get hatred and hold the line.

Cheerio,

Ben

No General? I'd through in a general, just so that the halbierders have hold the Line and LD 9. It's nice tosee that you recognized it and threw in the war altar to help make up for it, but the only other advantage i see is the battle prayers affecting evreyone, and Banishment. You only need the battle prayers to really affect the Halbierders, and Hatred+ Banishment is nice, but your paying around 1.5  times the cost of a general, who will hold the Halbierders in place much better, and considring how sliced up their going to get, your going to want that instead. Not that the War Altar isn't a bad unit, it's actually a good choice, but in a small list like this, I would drop the Altar and take the general. That's just my opinion.

Plus I'm a newbie at this, so my advice might not be the best.

Last note, i agree with your choice of Light, because Dwellers is not te only spell you can use, Regrowth is a great spell two.

Thanks for the pointers!  I'll try to further explain my decisions below.

You both mention to add a General to my Halberdierd horde for 'Hold the Line'.  However,  my Halberdiers are already benefiting from the BSB's 'Hold the Line', thus a general is not needed to be placed in the unit.  As for the LD issue, the War Altar extends the Lectors LD to 18 inchs.  This is more then enough to cover most of the army since the Altar would be around the center.  The War Altar for sure isn't the beast it once was, but allowing battle prayers (flamming tank cannons?) to effect the battle line is huge.  Furthermore, since I went the double stank route and cannot afford a Hurricanium, the Walters hatred is required in place of that.  This was my thought process of including the Waltar.  Its also a decent Tarpit when push comes to shove and Banishment helps solve the Daemon and Undead issue ( hexwraiths?).

Life is an excellent lore.  Between the feared dewellers (for those hordes of 100 night gobos or 50 maraders etc), regrowth for the double stanks, the best lore attribute to further heal the stanks, Flesh to stone on the halberdiers, magie missile to handle ethereal chaff etc... there are a ton of threats to dispel.  Also, not miscasting due to Thrones is huge.  My second choice of Lore would be Light for double banishment nonsense.  I'll play test both!

I might actually ditch the Crossbows and add some knights to the list.  Just wish we had updated models by now. :icon_cry:
