Help Me spend $300 on Warhammer 40k
« on: May 21, 2009, 12:08:36 PM »
Hello,

I am buying $300 worth of Warhammer 40K this week and would like a bit of advice.

I am definitely getting:

6 Killa Kans
1 Stompa

I am then thinking about getting some of the following (adding up to about $130)

a second Stompa
a Baneblade
a deff dredd
a Ork Battalion Box
a Tau Battalion box
a Tau Commander
2 boxes of Ork bikers

What do you think?  I love the super heavies, especially stompas.  Getting a third would allow me to get the Goff Klaw Stompa, but the Bane Blade could be the fearsome Skullhamma Battle Fortress.

These are being bought at Maelstrom or Wayland, so assume a 25-30% off discount.

I may need to send you to a psychiatrist. Did you, or did you not, JUST buy one stompa less than a week ago. Now, you're considering a THIRD???

Do it.
Now.

Get the two Stompas, the six Kans, and a Deff Dread. Then, send any money you have left to me.
Burn them with the Flames of your Faith!

You would have the biggest army ever in Epic if you spend $300.

Why would you want to deviate from the ork path?  Are you thinking of starting another 40K army?

Having finally seen the baneblade, stormblade, valkyrie and Stompa in person, I would advise you purchase many of each for your orks.

Wissenlander:  I was given a Tau army when a friend couldn't finish paying me for them (I lent him $350 a couple years ago and he has only trickled the money back - so ended PhillyT's banker days...).

So I have the following:

3 crisis suits
3 stealth suits
4 hammerheads
2 devil fish
24 firewarriors
12 kroot
3 railgun pathfinders
7 pathfinders
24 drones of various types
3 piranha

A Tau battalion, another crisis suit on that and a commander would basically finish this army off.  Which would run about the $130 I have left.  But on the minus side, I wouldn't touch the army until next summer if that!

Alternatively, I could just wait and get more ORks!

Soulfire:  The second Deff Dredd is tempting, but they aren't super good, and they cost half the price of a Stompa!  If I am half way to a stompa the pull to get another is overwhelming...  also, that would give me three Stompas, meaning I would only be missing the Evil Eye Stompa...

The Baneblade is tempting for the Skullhamma Fortrress.  Carries 30 (which could be 3 killa kans!) has a 10" template, and is fast, meaning a 24" move if I don't shoot or a 12" and still shoot the big gun.  But he fails against the stompa.

3 stompas would be a dream, but my opponents can't get to 4000 individually, meaning I wouldn't use them all that often.  Two would see play all the time, but three would let me pick the two I want for each battle.

So I guess the tau stuff is out.  It is not a question of do I get a deff dredd in order to maintain symetry and add a battalion of orks, or do I get the two stompas and something else in the $40 range.

If you're working on orks now, you might as well spend the money on them.  You'll end up spending extra money on stuff you'll want to get for them anyway, and in a years time you may not be interested in Tau anymore.  Go the ork path for sure.  I don't know enough about 40K to tell you what to get, though.

I was going to say something about the 3rd Stompa :icon_eek:, but Soulfire beat me to it. :icon_lol:

I'd focus on completing the Orks, and worry about Tau further down the line.

I am leaning towards 2 more stompa and the 6 killa kans.

I think that will work out better in the long run.

And the blackreach box.

I am splitting the box with Dagonaki :D

He needs marines to get to 4000 points, I need orks and kopters.

Apocolypse is great for getting you to play with models you wouldn't normally be interested in for point cost reasons.

Potentially...

Dagonaki is actually the guy who has them.  Try sending him a PM directly and work a deal.

If he doesn't have anything to interest you, let me know and we can finish it.

Philly, buy a fourth Stompa.

Basically, I'm not gonna do any trades over continents, if that makes sense. No offence, guys!  :-(

Now, MrDWhitey, you're a single train ride away...so that's different... :engel:

Still think you should get a Manta. Just because it's 2000 points.

Buy it.

Convert it to crashed.

Play with normal rules.
