Okay, just skimmed the rules, and I REALLY like what I'm reading. Those mechanics seem solid, at least at first glance.

I like the added complexity of to hit modifiers, I like the way CC is handled, I like that powerful weapons are back to a save modifier instead of a flat "ignores all armor worse than x". Seems very old school, in a good way!

EDIT: just read how they handle Terminator armour. 3+ save, but you roll 2D6 and add them together. So against a weapon with no save modifier you'd need to double 1 to not save - love it! Makes it really stand out, as it should.

I like it too. Now my Tau Pathfinders will get some games. Nu Taniths will be painted. The Cadian sub-faction should work.

I wonder if Catachans can represent Valhallans?

Represent them? Not really. Pretty much the opposite in regards to the climate they're dressed for. Just use the rules though. They're both Guard, so I don't really see an issue with it.

Your opponent would have to be quite a douche to take issue with that.

Ha, that's exactly how it was in 2nd edition.

Yes - I very much favor this over the current 40K iteration of Terminator armor. Like I said, I also like the return of save modifiers instead of flat AP, and the mechanics for sustained fire, and short and long range modifiers. There's enough characteristics to make guns unique again, which is great IMO!

I meant to use the rules for Catachan sub-faction to represent my Valhallans. Same as to use the Cadian Sub-faction rules to represent my Tanith minis.

Why the hell not. Like I said, you're using guard models. It's not like you're proxying with Necrons.

I'd say both of those fit fine for a game.

If they'll introduce this mechanic in the 8th edition, Termies might be viable once again!

Also they keep the current era 5+ Invulnerable save too, so we're getting the best of both worlds with the termie armor. It won't matter, I am certain some eldar player will still kill my Wolf Guard guy deader than a dodo....sigh...

Ive printed and bound a full set of the rules ready for the bash.
There are 40 different shades of black, so many fortresses and ways to attack.

So why you complaining!

What do you think of them? I'm not really playing atm, so my gut feeling may be slightly out of kilter - but I didn't have a single "oh my LORD GW! YOU STUPID FUCKS" moment when reading the core rules. A pleasant sensation.

I have no idea how the balancing between the warbands is, but the frame seems very solid.

There is very little choices in war bands so I feel they are probably quite balanced. Easy to do so. A good idea really.

He is my blood axe ork gang for the bash. With the fixed advancement rules for recruitment and equipment I've gone with a 'more boys, less toys' approach. However I did splash for a big shoota for some serious dakka!

Boss - big choppa and slugga
Spanner - big shoota & clip harness (I had ten spare points at end and it makes him a bit safer at height)
4 boyz - slugga and choppa
5 yoofz - shoota

So eleven models to start with so I'll always outnumber other starting gangs. Started painting last night on first yoof. Going for a first edition imperial guard urban camo scheme, just more orky, with orange/blood red accent colours as I really liked phillyTs orks

Prove him wrong mark and paint them!

Remember though you'll probably need 16-18 models as you'll get more in the gang as you play games. No pressure
