the hargendorf garrison and relief forces
« on: July 10, 2017, 02:59:21 PM »
a little collection of some men painted up before a long break, quick little story of this battle, a large force of the undead have prepared an attack at the town of hargendorf, the defenders quickly scramble to put up barricades (those will be posted soon aswell) in an attempt to defend, while a small group heads to alert salzenmund about the coming invasion and soon a relief force is sent lead by kurt helborg consisting of a small unit of reiksguard, a few demigryph knights, a steam tank, a small artillery base, and a well trained wizard. for now until I can prepare a proper force of nordland I have some photos

flag bearer of the hargendorf halberdiers

the brave musician of the battle line marching towards the foe with only a drum and a single stick
canon crew will be posted soon
for the past 2 years, I have sat in my cage, watching the owners put me in small, translucent spheres, and dump small, rock like food, into my cage. But no longer!, I have broken free of the shackles of being a hamster and now!, I paint, as a hamster can not do much more, mostly our small life span

the canon crew, most of it was painted when I bought it, all I changed was the color scheme. If I had painted it the metal just wouldn't look as good, at all, I am really bad with metallic paints.

Hey Hamster, welcome here.
Things to remark:
- Nordland has a good combination of colours in their uniforms. Good choice.
- Bases are pretty much better on the cannon crew. Try to do the same with the rest of the army
- Try to make photos a little bit larger, then we can help you better
- In some colours, it is advisable to put two o three layers, in order to cover to primer colour. Seems a silly thing, but it isn't. Is always better two fine  and slightly dense layers than one.

Keep practicing!

I like the freehand banner work.

I think the bases of both units should be fine - will depend in the whole of army basing to tie them all together.

Do you have another angle on the cannon? I am curious what you mean about the metals - to see if there is any advice we can offer.

Welcome!

In the case of the metals I think, I have a an idea on how to the the style of metal, with darker and lighter bits matching a more, in my opinion realistic look. The cannon is a better example of this, being a larger subject then the one crewman's helmet.

I can't really replicate the bases of the crew because of the fine grit, I only at the moment have A supply of medium grit, if I can I would try to get more cohesive bases, so really my plan is since the canon would be on a hill near the town, not really in it, a grass base makes a bit more sense vs a rock like street base.

Ah, i see what you mean.
That metalwork is nice. My guess is they just put a wash on it? Any of our experienced painters able to help?

the first of the vampire counts army is spotted nearing the coast line, to the barricades marches the local garrison as civilians dump what ever they have into barricades and flee for their lives!. here we have a lovely wight king, and . . . not . . . I was told to make skeletor out of a necromancer and this is the reason I will no longer take my brothers request for painting his figures for him.

and also I bunch of ply wood and extra shields and little spear bits (it looks stupid but hey in the lore they thought it would slow zombies or something) to form a lovely 2 set of barricades.

this should be it for the week if I don't decide to paint a bit of the barricades.

Haphazard barricades are nice. Paint them up and add them to your scenery collection.

Really nice terrain hill. I think I've just had my inspiration.

Edit : I should add I love the barricades. I think I'm going to loot this idea fully 😸

as the second battle of hargendorf begins, the relief column  arrives to reinforce the garrison. the main force of the force is the steam tank, driven by von malkov the mad and therefore the tank was named von malkovs marvelous metal monstrosity, the history of von malkov is quite long, beginning as he was drafted from his home in ostland to serve as a handgunner, he was recruited to be an apprentice to a master engineer after he modified his rifle to shoot fire, the captin was furious at his invention damaging one of his rifles and accidentally being set on fire. the master engineer quickly realized how insane this man was, malkovs only goal in war was to win a metal, the engineer, now tired of his antics, arranged for him to be presented with a participation award for his deeds in a small patrol where he shot 1 orc, upon receiving the award he decided medals are awesome  and he will win all metals known to the empire, the engineer was later seen screaming and crying in his home after being told he would continue to have to deal with the young engineer. throughout his travels he slowly built up his tank which is now escorted by malkovs personal guard, luther wulf a veteran captin and long time friend of malkov to which he servers as body guard and assistant gunner and gryph hound watcher.

the halbirdiers are almost done and the first ten of them will be posted later today or tomorow

the first 10 of 25 halberdiers armed with old, rusted halberds mainly gathered from ship wrecks along the coast.

von malkovs pet, wilson a small gryphhount he found in a visit to altdorf, he now keeps it as a guard to his extra equipment a box of cannon round and his shovel for all the time a engineer might need a shovel.

luthor wolf, malkovs friend and bodyguard, a native middenlander and professional sharpshooter, he first shot a gun at the age of 10 and first served in a small town militia at 15, by the age of 20 he had become a decorated veteran handgunner where he sustained and terrible shoulder injury, he was forced out of service and met malkov at a small shooting competition, malkov and brought his latest invention a crossbow that fire 3 flaming bolt in rapid succession and could be reloaded in as fast as 7 seconds, this did not end well as during a nearby jousting competition he fired the crossbow over a wall to show how far it can fire, it hit the rider of one of the horses and knocked him onto the ground, causing his horse to panic and cause his opponent to crash, malkov was then removed from the competition, in the crowd he met luther after discussing fire arms for a minute he mentioned his shoulder injury, malkovs then presented a modified 3 barreled pistol with no recoil, allowing for the should and arm to remain stationary never require sudden movements, luther then became malkovs body guard, and the gunner of the marvelous metal monstrosity.

the forces of the empire rejoice as the M.M.M arrives tearing through skeletons and zombies and relieving the remaining defenders

now the real question, how much will it cost to get the amount of grit I need for the base, fun times.

the first of the undead legions approach the shores of nordland, many of the skeletons were once defenders of nordland themselves who fell against the hordes of choas and the like, but now they near their former home to bring the rule of the vampire deep into nordland

The only good spider is a dead one. Of course I realize their importance in the grand scheme of things but there are a lot of things I don't like in the grand scheme of things.
Here's my helper and spider eater. As well as spearman eater, squig eater etc.

well as promised here is the story behind the most important character here, the reiksguard champion, a warrior who no ones knows the name of, made his name fighting orcs in a mercenary army sent to keep orcs away from the empires border, after returning home he became one of the reiksguard, after serving for a while he proved himself enough to become a captain, he would lead the reiksguard in this battle for his home state of nordland.

here we go another round of almost entirely nordland troops, except for a couple of middenland mercenaries that were bought painted and kept so for the extra fluff.
A shot of one of the nord hand gunners

and one of the mercs

the middenlander mercenaries happend to be in town when the undead were spotted, as they were out of work and stuck in nordland looking for a job they struck up a deal with the local tavern keeper, free drinks and rooms for 2 months if they train and help the few men in the town capable of taking the job, they agreed immediately and spent the next hour hunting down any man with a handgun and the ability to use them in the end they rounded up a total of 20, the plan was to have the mercenaries lead an independent group of the most capable gunners while the rest would support the company of spears. the hand gunners had the ability to make or break their forces, a success would mean the infantry would have weakened foes or non existent opponents
