What happened?

Well this post is too time consuming to keep up and doesn't really add anything special to just looking at the GW store page. So I will not continue with this thread, though I will keep the news flowing in the other thread

then un-stick it.

In the mean time do we have something usefull... like

links to sites where we can find stuff to play empire or DoW in age of sigmar?

I have seen some info on the GW site, but nothing like:"Here you can find everything remotely useable for empire link"

This is the only thing available to play "Empire" using Age of Sigmar Rules, if you want to play using the ruleset, and set in the World That Was

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/WSC-EMP-ENG
That's just the warscrolls, for points, they'd only be in the now OOP General's Handbook 2016.

In the Age of Sigmar Setting, the former Empire miniatures that are usable, are now split into a number of factions - Devoted of Sigmar, Free Peoples, Collegiate Arcane and Ironweld Arsenal.  You'd need the Grand Alliance: Order book, and the latest General's Handbook for points. (And there is a new one out at the end of the month)

I find this somewhat confusing, quite annoying and very off-putting. They seem to release so many books, whose purpose and value are not really clear to me, that I can't be bothered to find out more. I haven't played a game in a long time, but in the past of WHFB, I have always bought the rule book and army book regardless, even if it was just for theory-hammer. They really want you to purchase 3-4 books these days in order to build an army list?

You only really need to buy an army book these days for the background lore.  All the rules and warscrolls (except batallions) are in the app, and there is a free list builder on the Warhammer Community site.

The app also has an army builder, but it's a £0.99 a month subscription service.

Of they want you to by many books, but you don't really need any.

I wonder if we should rework this thread to be a library linking to a little blurb for each faction. The blurb could be kept in here, or the Imperial office, or a wiki or whatever. Just something so people who are interested can check some links and get some info on the different factions.

I was just thinking, maybe the AoS sub-board could do with a couple of pinned threads, one for background lore, and one for army building/rules that  might be geared towards old empire players that haven't kept up with AoS since it began, as many don't know where to begin when everything is changed in some way from the Old World.

I've been answering a few things abour lore lately

And then your post appeared before I posted this, and it seems we agree

Indeed! I've been turning the same over in my head for a little while. I've noticed a good number of questions about the armies and lore that I thought could be helped by something like that. Most of the time by the time I see it, someone else has already answered it and I don't have much to add. Interesting to see us on the same brain wave with it.

It certainly doesn't have to be a big blurb, but maybe just enough to give people an idea of what's what, then some links even just to GW stuff like SKS was doing, but more overall faction then each particular thing.

I would like to wait till AoS2 really hits before diving in to this and most work will be outdated by then, but I like the idea and the GW shop does have a faction overview introduction for 40k and with AoS2 being live I believe it will also have updates for the new factions in AoS.

I would also suggest to make new threads for this and this one just to be unstickied.

I tried an hour or two to find out what I need.  After sharing youre feelings for those two hours I desided to ask the collective knowledge of the forum.

Waiting a bit and then getting what I need will be fine.

GW seems to be less xenophobic then they used to be, the game is maturing, I am actually no longer ashamed to get going with the system.

Rules of movement and fighting, etc, are down to a couple of pages, rules for units are all included on the scrolls. GW is actually managing to get a new fanbase for a new game going.

So I will give it a try..  maybe two :)

A fair bit of the info may well be on the forthcoming https://ageofsigmar.com/ site.

But, yeah, wait 3 weeks for the new edition, so we can write up-to-date info.

Yes they are with maybe a few minor edits along the way.

Yes sort off, battleplans and other stuff is still usable, but mostly the fixes on the points etc are obsolete.. And to make it worse within 1 year even not 2 as Generals Handbook 2017 is already trumping it and will be surpased by GH 2018

Those were already there since AoS came out... Still nothing has changed in that segment unfortunatly.. And seeing they get a rules update in GH 2018 it won't change on a short notion also.

Not quite, it's an updated version which doesn't have the warscrolls for most of the units that are now in other factions, and has generic warscrolls for formerly named characters.  I think they did it to move on from the old fluff, as they no longer do those miniatures, and want to support the current lore.

I had intended to find the link for the Empire warscroll compendium from launch, which I have my own copy of, but it doesn't appear to be on the GW site any more.

Since then they have a Warhammer Legends section on the Warhammer Community site.  Where I believe they will do a new-old warscroll for the old that was Armies, including renamed units, so that they can be played as an old style army.  They said when each one launches there will be a Made to Order for a selection of OOP minis for each faction.  At the moment they have only done one for Dark elves

https://www.warhammer-community.com/legends/

When Empire comes up, I'll be sure to let W-E forumers know

Yes and no.  GHB2016 was the only one so far with the points for the old Compendium Warscrolls.  They didn't put in points for those in GHB2017.  The General's Handbooks are primarily going to be an annual for the matched play points updates -presumably for factions still in the game, so a re-balancing of the game if you like, something much requested, along with freequent and quick FAQs, (something they are getting better at)

It's more than just a points update, it includes new scenarios and optional rules for open play, narrative play as well as matched play

Empire isn't a faction in any sense any more, not unless you're playing a game set in the Old World

Armies are built with a common Allegiance.  For example, Free Peoples is an Allegiance, in that faction are the freeguild troops - Freeguild Guard, Freeguild Handgunners, Freeguild Greatswords, Freeguild Generals etc.    If you take Free Peoples as the allegiance, you get access to specific Allegiance abilities, command traits and artefacts that represent how that faction fights.  At least 80% of your army has to have the FREE PEOPLES keywords, to count as that allegiance, and you cn have up to 20% allies, and the allies chart means they can ally in Collegiate Arcane (Battle Wizards and the wizard wagons), Devoted of Sigmar (warrior priests, flagellants, witch hunters, war altars), Ironweld Arsenal (war machines, helblasters, helstorms, plus duadrin war machines, cannons, organ guns, gyrocopters, and the Steam Tank).  Also, As Free Peoples are an ORDER faction, they can ally in Stormcast Eternals.

Alternatively, you could build your army with an ORDER grand alliance Allegiance, and mix and match any ORDER keyword troops, though the allegiance ability and command traits and artefacts will be more generic

So you could sort of build "Empire" like armies

So does that mean I'll be waiting three weeks for the answers to the questions above? :icon_wink:

No, most of those answers are unlikely to change before then, and I was meaning before we write up an FAQ thread

I would like to see an "Introduction" Thread for this board that I can sticky - but not being involved with AoS I am not very qualified to write it.

If someone would like to contribute in posts below I can 'edit' and create something suitable.  :biggriin:

Same! Would like to set it up and contribute

But things will be more clear when AoS2 hits

Though a little introduction to all the faction focus articles for AoS2 can be found here:
https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/06/05/faction-focus-index/

It's just not comprehensive enough yet and only gives a little insight in whats to come

I guessed you two would be "front and centre"

An intro between you when you are ready - and an invitation to add to the thread with reference info would be good.
Thanks

Yeah sure. This thread can still live, it doesn’t need to be stickied to produce that outcome...
