How long have you been playing Warhammer?
Since 6th Ed. Introduced to Warhammer by my brother....

Are you new to the Empire?
No, have had an empire army for a few years and have about 2,500 pts and still are filling it out with more models to help make it a better themed Ostermark army, eg, Knights of Morr, Red Dragon Knights(kit bashed Knights i have made up)and the famous Deaths Head Haliberdiers.

Do you have an existing army, or armies, of other warhammer races?
I have a 3,000 to 4,000 Pt Orc and Gobbo army and just recently a 40K Tyranid army(approx. 2,500 pts)... I used to have Chaos, Tomb Kings, Dark Elves armies  :icon_razz:

How and where do you play?
I do not get to play that often now since moving to New Zealand   :icon_cry:

Do you have other interests/hobbies?
Model trains.. and have a reasonable size setup in my Garage

....and anything else you might like to share.......

P.S. How do you add photos here????  :eusa_wall:  :icon_eek:
Then make three times that. It should be enough for half the roof Glue
You could certainly amass quite a collection of testicles

Hi all,

Just a liitle something about the 'ol Stepper,

I've been busy with warhammer since i was 12 years old i'm now 31 so that's 19 years of hobby madness ^^

I'm not new to the empire, but never collected enough for an army, but with the new griffon (my fav mythological creature)that has changed :D, other armies i collect and played in the past are Wood Elves, High Elves and Dark Elves and lately the Chaos Dwarfs which will remain my major focus this year when it comes to painting  ::heretic::

Some of my other hobbies include: comics, cartoons, action figures and football (Ajax and Inter Milan) and working out at the gym.

What i hope to learn here is how 2 play warhammer with the Empire as my Chaos Dwarfs are purely a display army.

I haven't played a game of warhammer in like 7 years or so, so i have 2 learn eveything anew
But i'm sure that with the help of the kind people of the Empire here' i'll soon be able to crush all that stand before me ^^

Ciao,

Stepper
In this style number seven ^^

How long have you been playing Warhammer?
Been playing warhammer since October-ish, but have become quite good in all 3 games that GW
publishes (WH40k, WHFB, LotRSBG) and am really looking forward to my second Fantasy army

Are you new to the Empire?
Yes, I was very attracted by the idea of detachements, that counter charge rule is just beautiful.
Also the ability to field a heavy and competitive force (in comparison with my WE) is something I'd
really like to do, especially since I'm extremely unfamiliar with actually using decent armour (after
all I play Wood Elves, Imperial Guard, and use Wood Elf Warriors in LotR).

Do you have an existing army, or armies, of other warhammer races?
Yes, I play Wood Elves since October, and already own approximately 3000 points worth, but what
I'm really excited to do is have a more standard battle line type tactic.

How and where do you play?
My local GW, against whoever happens to be around.

Do you have other interests/hobbies?
D&D, cadets, AV, Magic the Gathering

How long have you been playing Warhammer?
About two years. I used to play 40k, quit in a fit of pique years ago. I actively play a lot of smaller miniatures games (Malifaux, Dystopian Wars, no-longer-supported GW stuff) and picked up fantasy so that I'd still have something popular enough to find opponents for, found I enjoyed it more.

Are you new to the Empire?
Relatively new, picked up the bulk of my army about 6 months ago.

Do you have an existing army, or armies, of other warhammer races?
I have 3000+ points of Dark Elves, which until recently were my primary army.

How and where do you play?
With friends, and at local hobby stores. Just relocated, so figuring out the new lay of the land.

Do you have other interests/hobbies?
I own far too many books on far too many topics (so says my wife at least), and also enjoy roleplaying games.

....and anything else you might like to share.......
I'm 26, have a lovely wife and a daughter who takes after her father in orneriness.

Oh, seems I never made it to this thread.

Anyway, I'm a young chap from South Skandinavia, at the end of by studies (Some art history and a bunch of Archaeology).
I started Warhammer when the 5th ed. was new. Played with Wood Elves back then, and later Skaven.
Started out with Empire with the release of the 6th edition boxed set.

I have about 1500 points of painted Empire models, (I'm slow), as many assembled, and once again as many in boxes here and there.

Don't play very much at all these days, Mainly just once a year of two, with my brother.
So my main interest in Warhammer is painting and modelling as well as reading fluff.

I also have a Chaos Mortal/Beastmen army of Nurgle (2000pts), from when they were in the same book, as well as an Eldar army in odd bright colours (1000pts).

Apart from studying, painting and modelling, I go to the gym, play board games and read I song of Ice and Fire (Soon time to reread A Dance with Dragons I think)...

Hello All!

My name is Amber. I'm 22 years old and live in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. with my boyfriend and dog.  After graduating from school with a degree in Vocal Performance, I've been seeking out gigs as an opera singer which are not so shockingly few and far between  :icon_confused:. Luckily, I also teach music privately so I can pay for the ridiculous cost of living in this area.

I guess I'll cut right to the chase...I am 100% new to playing Warhammer with the exception of a couple sloppy games as a 1000 pt High Elf (a la Island of Blood) army. In all honesty, I began researching/playing Warhammer because it's a hobby that my boyfriend and our best friends became interested in. Through some very limited research, I'm embarrassed to admit that I chose the Empire army solely based on lore. I have an odd obsession with the Holy Roman and Hapsburg Empires (specifically the 16th through 19th centuries) which coincides with my obsession of late-Baroque and Romantic Era music (specifically Haydn and Mahler for other music nerds out there). After deciding it was the Empire that got my history-nerd juices flowing, I researched play styles and figured out that I was very interested in the multifaceted armies that the Empires can produce.

All that being said, I have no idea how to field an army or what my play-style is; this is what most of my posts will likely pertain to. I also don't know where to begin in building an army, though I do have Ludwig Schwarzhelm (my little German heart couldn't resist) and the Celestial Hurricanum/Luminark of Hysh. If the powers that be suggest that I don't use them in my build, that's a-okay with me since I picked them up to fuel my interest. Since I'll be only playing casually, the armies I'll be playing against will consist of Skaven, Lizardmen, Dwarves and occasionally High Elves.

I'm looking forward to this new adventure!  :icon_biggrin:

Hi Guys and Gals

I'm Powderfan, an old enough to know better gamer from South Essex England.  I have been into the hobby since about 1987 and seen the coming and going of the various editions of WHFB and 40k, along with many of the other games GW has published over the years.  I played Empire since about 1990 but my circle of player friends was small and location meant playing at GW stores was next to impossible.  So I never really got to grips with the game although we always had a laugh.  The big trouble we had was always wanting to play the biggest games we could but only ever had a small gaming table so movement was always stunted.  Just like my mates Dwarves ;) so I always seemed to have trouble against him.

On reflection, being a little (read a lot) older and wiser (read not so) I can see why I was having difficulty dealing with the Dwarves.  To get up to the high points levels we tried to play I would be maxing out on characters and this made my list troop light and when it came to combat my average fighters would struggle against the 'Elite' dwarves.  Also I would go magic heavy and those dammed runes would just negate 1/4 of my points spend.  The final problem I used to have was being mugged off about some of the runes and what they do.  I am sure much of it was not intentional and I could blame myself for not borrowing his army book to read and learn from.  But that is by the by.

I dropped out of the hobby for a few years as many do, but I would always pick up the new releases of rules with the intention of breaking out my models and playing again.  Just over a year ago I found a local club that plays 40k.  The Overlords (www.theoverlords.co.uk) and have been going there almost every week.  I have made many new friends and they are not WAAC gamers and love the fluffy side of things.  So almost every game is a close run thing.  I re-learned the game with 5th Ed but will soon be starting over when 6th comes out.  Going to a games club is great and has motivated me to finally get my models painted and based.  I hope to find a similar gaming group for FB so I can play and get my armies painted up.

The armies I have are Empire, Vampire Counts, Skaven, High Elf.  I have never played with the VC's and the skaven and Elf armies have been bolstered by the box set.  But I have not played with them either, they still need building.  So for the time being I am looking to complete my Empire army and go to a few tournaments.  I am sure I will learn plenty now I have signed up here and with luck I will meet some of you for some games.  I will post some photos as I assemble and paint my models.  Most of which are old skool but with a smattering of new stuff.  I will probably stick to Altdorf colours as my Halberdiers are mostly painted. But I will be going over them again.

At the moment I have rebased 80 Halberdiers onto magnetic bases and they will stand on metal movement trays so finally they will not fall over.

I hope some of you manage to get this far and have not fallen to sleep.  I will try to keep my posts a little shorter in the future.  maybe.

Greetings and Salutations!

Well I am GuessRange, and after taking a long reprieve I am diving back into my wargaming madness. So without further ado...

How long have you been playing Warhammer?
On and off for the last...13 years...wow. :-o Time flies. Though in recent alas my WFB armies have collected more dust than scalps.. :icon_frown:

Are you new to the Empire?
Mostly. I have never actually raised a whole Empire army, dabbled around the edges with some token elements. Have been recently re-inspired and decided that I would not fall back onto my current armies, but seek something new..and the Empire fit the bill quite nicely.

Do you have an existing army, or armies, of other warhammer races?
During my time I have played many, many armies...actually except for dwarfs and Orcs and Goblins, there are few of the Armies I have not played at least a little. Currently I have a Dark Elf Army which was my first army, also have a Beastman Army, Hordes of Chaos Army, Undead (many Edn'd ago), a small Lizardmen, a small Bretonnian, remnants of a mighty Skaven horde - which is slated to be re-raised (after my new Empire Army).

How and where do you play?
I will be resuming with some friends, but intend to step into the wargaming scene in Brisbane. Once I have my head back in the game will prob see myself travelling the country to play and meet people.

Do you have other interests/hobbies?
The rest of the GW universe (yes 40k too), most of the specialist games. Also general games, books, movies, music.

....and anything else you might like to share.......
For me,wargaming isn't so much of a 'hobby', as it is 'part of who I am'. Like a vital limb for my imagination I can't see myself completely stopping it.

Anyway, I will keep it short, hope to see you around the place as I start raising my own Empire Army.

Cheers

Hello, I'm a gamer based in Worcesterhire in the UK and it's time I got some advice on playing my Empire army under 8th edition...

How long have you been playing Warhammer?
I played the original edition using the miniatures my friend and I collected for our D&D games. Then I played WH40k Rogue Trader for a few years, because it was cheaper to buy a proper army. Then around 2005 I got back into WHFB properly and nowadays it is my major hobby.

Are you new to the Empire?
My first "modern" army for Warhammer was my Empire army, which I picked up second hand as a painted Middenheim army from Storm of Chaos. A lot of that went when I decided to make it a "proper" Empire army and I've repainted the rest in the last 6 months or so. Which is why I'm here to pick up some ideas before I start playing them under 8th edition!

Do you have an existing army, or armies, of other warhammer races?
Oh yes! I have a Beastman army of around 400 models / 12k points, and a Tzeentch themed Daemon army of around 4000 points, both completed in recent years. I also have a large mostly painted Lizardman army (mainly 5th edition models) and a Vampire Counts army which needs a lot of updating (probably my next project when I finish this Empire project) .

How and where do you play?
I play with a small group of local gamers, many of whom have known each other since school, at our friend's house. We play about once a month in a friendly but competitive atmosphere. Our armies tend to be unoptimised and ad hoc, often featuring units which we have just bought or painted rather than a tournament style line up.

Do you have other interests/hobbies?
I'd love to still be doing RPGs, but since all my friends had kids we just can't get 4 people in a room regularly any more :( So it's mostly modelling and painting for Warhammer and a few other wargames. Other than that:
supporting Manchester United (that's a football team for you non-sports fans!);
hill walking (a nice cheap hobby which I can still do when the other two have spent the month's pay cheque!);
reading lots of fantasy and sf novels (predictable huh?)

....and anything else you might like to share.......
You can take a look at my Empire painting blog over on the Herdstone (my natural home!) via the links below...

just saw your Middenland/Middenheim army, Shadespyre, and wondered whether you picked them 'cos of the blue and white wavy lines on the Worcestershire county flag.

I also have blue and whites. One day I like to imagine all the Middenheim players will join together and defeat every alliance that dares to stand against us. It's a fantasy I have. As someone who already engages in a 'fantasy' hobby (quite literally) I have to have a very big fantasy for it to seem so to me.

To quote Buxton the blue cat ...

Blue is beautiful (& white)
Blue is best (& white)
I'm blue (& white)
I'm beautiful
I'm best.

Oooh, good knowledge! Actually I think the blue and white lines (I assume representing the River Severn) are only on the County Council badge, the traditional city / county arms just have 3 black pears. Or a tower on red  black quarters. Or three black pears and a tower. You know how these things go! :)

No, it was purely that the Middenheim army was featured in Storm of Chaos, and I like the colour blue! To be honest if I was starting all over again I'd probably pick a different province and make it more "fluffy", or possibly do several small armies from neighbouring provinces. But after 400 blue and white guys I'll be surprised if I ever do that!

Has anyone ever done a poll of which provinces are most / least painted?

A Grand Army of Middenheim is a great dream, even if it is inspired by your Magic Roundabout addled mind...!

Hello there,

introducing myself a complete newborn empire and WHFB player.

Name's Max i'm from Germany and started playing W40k a few month's ago. After a while the scenario got boring
and I decided to move on to warhammer fantasy, searching for an army that fit my taste in looks and strategic possibilities.

After reading myself through forums and posts throughtout the web and rounabout a thousand posts that where like "blablabla
army RGB sucks against army CMYK if you field trooptype QW against QY". So I just made my decision on the looks and chose to find out about the rest, while I play with models I would like to paint.

So why empire? Mostly because i like cannons and armies that can be diverse. So cannons + diversity = empire
So minitures for the first thousand points are beeing assembled at the moment, just thought about something and started with the stuff i liked and that i thought could work at this range of points.

Will let it walk down the parade ground aswell so feel free to comment.

Concerning playing I prefer to send a fully painted army on the table, did the same in 40k against hordes of grey clayman, so it will take a while till my southern army will march the fields.

So that's it.

Cheers

Greetings. I'm Andrew, and I'm from Pittsburgh, PA. About me:

I've played Warhammer fantasy since 1995.

I'm also brand-new to the Empire. In that time, I've painted and played Orcs and Goblins, Skaven, and Bretonnians. I've painted test models in almost every other army range except for the Empire, High Elves, and Ogres. The only other army that I actively play nowadays is my huge Orc and Goblin horde. It was time for a project and a change.

I've been reading up on Dutch history, and it got me excited about doing a Low Countries-inspired Empire Army based upon the Rembrandt painting Night Watch. So that's the general plan for Empire stuff. I like to read about how others structure their armies and paint them, hence joining this site.

I play in Pittsburgh, mostly at Phantom of the Attic or my own/friends' gaming tables. Occasionally I go to Legion's here in Pittsburgh too, but I detest unpainted models and they allow them.

Cheers.

Andrew

Hello everybody, long time reader, first time poster, so here is the basics about me:

How long have you been playing Warhammer?
-Since 5th edition, around 1999.

Are you new to the Empire?
-Yes and no. I had started tinkering with Empire back around 6th when they came in the starter box. I did so mostly because of Mordhiem (Love that game!) and I loved the mercenary models. Not a fan of poofy pants, but oh well.

Do you have an existing army, or armies, of other warhammer races?
-My first army and still my main is Brettonians. I played Orcs and Goblins for a while in 6th as well, but sold them off because I could never find the time to paint 300 models. I love Brets, but they are way behind the curve. And I am tired of charging and having nothing else.

How and where do you play?
- I play in the Northern Virginia area. I frequent Game Vault down in F-burg and Game Parlor in Chantilly.

Do you have other interests/hobbies?
-I play 40k, Warmachine, BFG, Mordhiem, Dystopian Wars on occasion, and love long walks at the beach!

....and anything else you might like to share.......

-Hmm, that about sums it up. I look forward to learning how to play Empire and painting up my custom mercenary force!

How long have you been playing Warhammer?
- Played a bit in 5th, just coming back

Are you new to the Empire?
- Yes shiny new!

Do you have an existing army, or armies, of other warhammer races?
- No starting a fresh, used to have 1500 lizards, 1000 brets and about 4k chaos warriors (might still have a dragon conversion in the cupboard somewhere!)

How and where do you play?
- Nowhere at the moment, might find a local group once i've got 1000pts

Do you have other interests/hobbies?
- A bit of this and that really

Hey all,

I started playing warhammer late in life, about 5 years ago. I started out playing lizardmen but bought an empire army 3 years ago off ebay that needed a lot of TLC. They appealed to me cause they had both Knights and war machines/units that reminded me of both mid-evil and Napoleonic era armies, couple interests of mine. Last summer I took the time to repaint most ot the used army and also had purchased many new boxes of models such as flagellants, state troops, archers, knights, etc. to supplement what I already had (about 200+ models). Started to play them on a regular basis during the fall of 2011. Been playing them mostly since then, occasionlly playing my lizards too. Since the new book came out I added demi-griffs and I'm currently painting a Luminark, then I'll be doing the Hurricanum, and will finish Marcus Wolfheart and the witch hunter too, I did just finish painting Leopolt the Black today. I used the Empire for our Great Lakes Warhammer League (GLWL) last winter and recently took them to the Blood in the Sun (BiTS) tournament in Chicago.

I was one of the kickstarter pledgers recently for Mantic games. I will be getting a 1000 point undead army soon which is another army I want to try out. After I finish up the empire models this summer (if I get that far), I will get back to my High Elves (base painted 120 rank and file in March) and I will be scratch building/painting two war shrines for a WOC army that I have in boxes right now.

Lastly, I will say I started out not liking the new empire book, but over the last two months I've been having success with it and am feeling a lot better about it. I am running primarily a cav list (2 units of knights) supported by a luminark, demi-gryphs, great swords, canon, 3 priests (2 mounted), lvl 4 of light, captain bsb mounted, and led by a templar grand master.

I have been visiting this forum for quite a while to get ideas for my army and check out army lists/battle reports so I thought it was past time that I joined up instead of lurking in the shadows.

Sorry for the ramble, I don't post often, but when I do I say too much. :icon_eek:

Good Gaming,
Friar Metick
Blessed be those who game.

Greetings!

I've been a lurker on the forums for a while, and I figured it was about time to register. I took a long break from Fantasy, but have come back with a vengeance! I'll be starting up a new Imperial army in the next few weeks and hope to benefit from all of your wisdom and experience!

How long have you been playing Warhammer?
- On and off since the end of 5th Edition (Fantasy).

Are you new to the Empire?
- Yes. Quite new to 8th Edition too, actually!

Do you have an existing army, or armies, of other warhammer races?
- Well, I've played a mix of WoC (5th/6th), O&G (6th) and WE (7th). I quit Fantasy right before 8th came out due to lack of interest (and it didn't help that all of my friends jumped ship to 40k), but ended up picking up a Dark Eldar and Ork army for a spell. I still have those, but my 40k playing is on hiatus!

How and where do you play?
- At the moment, I'm not playing anywhere. Generally, I play at a friend's house (he builds terrain and gameboards - needless to say, all of our group migrates to his place when we want a game). Though I'd like to start playing in our LGS; I'm just a bit worried that they are too competitive for my tastes. Warhammer is a "beer and pretzels" game for me.

Do you have other interests/hobbies?
- Far too many to list, in fact! I love to learn, so I'm a bit interested in everything. And I mean everything! Having said that, I love to read (and craft a story or two here and there) and will spend hours alone with a book if you let me.

....and anything else you might like to share.......
- I hope to learn all I can from the best Imperial minds here (and perhaps from a few of the heathen minds as well  :icon_wink:)!

Hi folks, thought I would introduce myself.

How long have you been playing Warhammer?
Since 5th Ed. Introduced at school by my friends at the time, and have had an on-off love affair ever since!  :icon_mrgreen:

Are you new to the Empire?
Kinda - I had an Empire force back in 5th ed, but it petered out somewhat.

Do you have an existing army, or armies, of other warhammer races?
I had about 2,000 pts of Wood Elves a while back, but got frustrated at not being able to use them properly and so gave up after a while. Kept some of my better painted models though.

How and where do you play?
I used to use my local GW a lot, but having moved and not in a permenant job yet, trying to assemble an army, let alone play, is a challenge.

Do you have other interests/hobbies?
I take part in LARP where I live (Labyrinthe) as well as in Exeter.

....and anything else you might like to share.......
I'm looking to get some advice on making a Sigmarite / Witch Hunter themed force that is also tourney worthy. I would love to be pointed in the right direction for that.

A couple more questions:

1. How big is the average force? I know it used to be 2k but having glanced at the forums I've seen 2.5 - 3k bandied around. I know it's got something to do with where you play, but it would be good to know what ball-park I'm in.

2. How viable are cavalry in the new edition?

Cheers,

Head on over to the Tactica Board (a sub-forum under the Imperial Office) and The Parade Ground (our army list forum)! I'm sure you'll be able to find everything you need there! Also, the Elector's Forum is a good place to ask general Empire-related questions.

1. How big is the average force? I know it used to be 2k but having glanced at the forums I've seen 2.5 - 3k bandied around. I know it's got something to do with where you play, but it would be good to know what ball-park I'm in.

2500 seems to be the most common but, as you say, it depends on where you live/play.

2. How viable are cavalry in the new edition?

Quite viable if you know how to use them!

All hail the kaiser!

Gooday fellow imperial generals, my name is Valdemar.

I have not starteted playing empire yet but i do plan starting a reikland/altdorf army, including the kaiser and emperor Karl Franz.

My previous armys have consisted of cold blooded lizards and no blooded vampires, time for some fresh warm bloods isnt it? My plan is to consist the army of a large block of halberds, supported by the honoured reiksguard and a viable amount artillery and handguns. I used to actually hate the empire for their tachnology but after playing the game "With fire and sword" they all the sudden became a obvious choise.

All hail the kaiser! - Valdemar

Hello Everyone.
My name is Kevin ive just turned 33 and I live in West Sussex in the south of England (UK)

Ive just come back to Warhammer fantasy battle from 4th/5th edition as ive recently been introduced to a new club so im new to 8th edition.
Aswell as Empire I also played 4th ed Chaos and have also always wanted to start Undead(now Vampire counts) which im also doing for 8th.
I plan on making several Empire armies from scratch over the years including Border Princes,Sylvania,Marienburg and possibly more in the future.
My miniature collection will range from 3rd edition Miniatures to 8th edition Miniatures and I hope to post pictures up in the future of my armys ect.

Thanks Kev

Long time lurker, now a little bit more than that.

How long have you been playing Warhammer?
Since early seventh ed, have been a much more longer 40k player.

Are you new to the Empire?
Nope, it's my first army, with the later brettonians.

Do you have an existing army, or armies, of other warhammer races?
Well, 5k pts of Empire, 4k pts of brettonians, two bands of Mordheimers (undead and Marienburgers), 40k: 5k pts Imperial Guard, 6k pts Black Templars, 4k pts Ultramarines, plus apoc goodies.

How and where do you play?
North Europe, in local clubs, and local tourneys.

Do you have other interests/hobbies?
Lots; play music, write books, having fun getting on scene doing theater, practicing multiple martial arts, ride my motorbike, renovate my house and garden, studying and working.  .  .

Being a Frenchie, I'll do my best using the English tongue.

So Hello Folks.

Hails, everybody! My name is Brad, and I'm from Austin, Texas, in the U.S.A. I'm 27, and I have been playing Warhammer for only about 3 to 4 months. I've been play 40k for roughly about a year and a half. I have a couple of friends I battle with, mainly at my buddy David's house. He talked me into playing a while back, he's been into it all for MANY years. I have cousins that also play. There's a couple of great gaming store I can play in here in Austin. My first army was Skaven, which I DO still play. In fact, I haven't used my Empire army yet, because I just bought a BUNCH of stuff from a guy locally. I got a Batallion box, which has 20 Empire State Troops, 10 State Handgunners/Crossbowmen, A Great Cannon, and 8 Empire Knights. I also got a Steam Tank, an Empire General, a Helblaster, a Warrior Priest, 2 Battle Wizards, 20 more state troops, 10 State Handgunners, 20 Free Company Fighters, and 5 Pistoliers. Is that a decent army? lol. Any suggestions on what I should add?

I like the face chioces.  :::cheers::: Definatly my favorite one being Irish and all. :::cheers:::

So about me. Im recently 30 but dont feel a day over 12. Gota stay young at heart lads.
I dont play any army as of right now but I am seriously considering Empire. The thought of normal men defending the homefront from all sorts of evil not niceness does strike my fancy. I tried looking at some of the other armies and my hero complex keeps drawing me back.
I like the models. Painting and little conversions should be alot of fun. I like to play games with alot of strategy involved. So just because Im new to Warhammer I have my fair share of victories in other things.
Any advice on how to get started and what direction is good for a beginer would not go amiss.

May your victories be aplenty  :::cheers:::
