Handgunner models
« on: May 12, 2005, 03:20:05 AM »
Are there any models for Handgunners beside the ones included in the boxed set/Empire detachment box?  I'm new to fantasy, and I'm not too fond of the one piece models.  I've seen some handgunner boxes on Ebay that look like they could be multi-piece, but since they're not on the GW site, I haven't seen any up close.  Any advice on better handgunners would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

JM

you can try the older models. Look in the collector range at the GW site.

If you shop around on eBay you can come across the old Handgunner Regiment boxes. Basically the Soldiers Regiment sprues (w/o shields) and metal arms and handguns. Plus cool metal bits for the command figures. GW did Crossbowmen the same way. I think the metal bits are available from Mail Order, you could use them with an Empire Soldiers box.

There are also the old metal handgunners, some of them are still available from Mail Order under the Classic/Collector's ranges.

Those Handgunner regiment boxes are really bad IMO. I've had one and the 'handguns' they are holding are about as large as a x-bow, maybe!
They are just tiny and look rather ridiculous. Not to mention the fact that none of the models is actually shooting or reloading, they're all 'walking forward with gun in hand'.

Try the classic range of metal handgunners, maybe you'll like how they look.

Furthermore look to those plastic Handgunners. Like fp said you can swap heads and I've also seen them converted into a kneeling position so more variety can be achieved!

Have a look at the Foundry handgunners (www.wargamesfoundry.com). Cheaper than GW metal and better looking than GW plastic (and not very much more expensive than the latter either). Sculpted by the Perry brothers by the way.

Confrontation Fusiliers look good to IMO but dont really fit with the usual empire look so some modification could be needed.

The reloading handgunners are quite nice, but the ones with their guns melting into their chins less so. I've taken some of the gun arms from the back rank figures, and spares from the militia sprue, to convert a unit of ordinary soldiers marching with guns over their shoulders, which looks nice...

Did I ever mention how much I hate painting those handgunner models?

They better be the first thing they change when we get changes to our range, along with not sticking them together with the spearman sprue and calling them detachments....

Here is the direct link to the Handgunners.  I am still in the middle of redoing some stuff for my Empire models, so they haven't been given a section of their own yet.  Maybe in a few weeks
