Well, I have come to the conclusion that my Empire-based Marienburg army is not going to really work out. I was just having too much trouble reconciling the Empire models and theme to that upstart city. In the process, I painted up 5K Dogs of War pirates and 3K Ogres to use as mercenaries in the army, but they'll keep.

This means that I am taking my Empire army in a different direction: The Order of the Cleansing Flame.
It is an army of Myrmidian Witch hunters who aim to clean up the remaining taint of mutation and corruption following the Storm of Chaos. They are based out of Talabecland, where the Suns are already well established, and aim to build on the power vacuum left by Conrad Feuerbach's dissappearance.

It will not feature the typical witch hunter look, but instead have more of a Knights of the Blazing Sun feel. It is led by a High Priest of Myrmidia on war altar and a Grand Master of the Blazing Suns. I'll get some pics going as I touch up a few of the units from the old army and add some new ones as well.

Sounds good. When I read the title I thought you'd aquired some of the old Knights of the Cleansing Flame RoR figures. I haven't seen them for years.

Psycho Pirate

Myrmidian witch hunters seems like an odd concept, since she is a goddess of war, strategy and such.  Morr, Ulric and, of course, Sigmar I can see witchhunters of, the latter especially.  But Myrmidia?  Curious why you chose that road?

In any event, I'm curious to see the results.  I know I have hit a point where I want a little of different things and can't stick to my Riekland theme, so I have created contingents from realms my general has holdings or that he has business.  Marienburg is one contingent I am starting to have fun with.  Or I will once I get some more units made.

I'm sure you can find a way to integrate your existing Marienburg units to whatever new form your army takes.

You mean they will be using Ouija boards instead of Tarot cards for their business plans from now on?

I was thinking about how the War Altar casts spells from the lore of light. That got me thinking about the Blazing Suns, a Myrmidian order. According to their story, they are well established in Talabecland (a similar color scheme to my old Marienburgers) and growing in popularity since participating in the Storm of Chaos.

Why not use the opportunity to further Myrmidia in the Empire? They bring in a high priest and form an army, vowing to wipe out any last vestiges of chaos. Thus, they are not exactly witch hunters, more like a martial order dedicated to the fight against chaos in all its forms.

Psycho Pirate

That makes sense, similar concept to the Hunters of Sigmar, just different in practice, I'm sure.

I have a similar concept running with my Order of Saint Johannus.  Myrmidian order that broke away from another order to pursue a more intelligent means of fighting wars, including securing resources and (re)establishing defense works in preparation for future wars.

I like the idea alot. Can't wait to see some pics. Other than the knights what units are you considering?
Care not for the judgement of others, but go forth and do as you see fit.

Me too, my thought when I saw the title. But an interesting bit of background fluff. I like the idea of a military (templar) order, knights with the other units as auxilliaries maybe?

Obi - Whats a Helf?

Psycho Pirate

Half Elf I believe.

I think several of the major orders in history had men at arms that supported the troops, like the Templars.  I was going to do something similar with my army, but got distracted with Riekland
