How long to make a miniature?

Hi, I know there is a webpage for how long do you spend on the hobby, but what I really want to know is how long it takes everyone to get a miniature from in the box to fully painted.

That includes, clipping, filling, assembling, painting and basing.

Could you please give me howlong that takes, for say a halbedier.

Thanks.

Yay my rocket battery finally killed something. What do you mean those are my halberdiers.

I can never seem to get it under 3 hours.

Shadowwolf

hmm... I think I landed on something similar during my last regimental painting session. But of course it depends on the minis...

Maybe 2 hours for example - free company guy...

Honestly, I don't know because I don't do single miniatures. The more miniatures you work with at once, the less time it takes per miniature. I can't finish a halberdier in one or two hours, but I could probably finish 5 halberdiers in 5 hours. I can easily finish 20 halberdiers in 20 hours.

Another thing that skews my records is the fact that I have quit gaming so I have very little need to paint miniatures fast, let alone assemble and paint whole regiments in one go. I might prepare a handful of random miniatures one day, glue sand on the bases the next day, wait overnight and touch up the bases a bit, wait 7 months and before undercoating them and finally start painting them 2 years later, just to lay them down the next day and buy, assemble or paint something else. Rinse and repeat.

If I were painting a new army for say, a tournament, it would still take about two days at minimum after opening a box to even undercoat the miniatures. Plastics are total pain in the a** if you need to finish something quickly, metal models are so much easier. My deep hatred towards assembling plastic regiments means that I almost never even try to make models from box to finished as fast possible.

Knowledge is power, hide it well.

It depends on what I'm painting, if its a rank and file troops twenty minutes tops, if its a warrior priest or master engineer an hour or two.

If i want it to look real nice, like, a Character, or such, it'll take quite some time.. i think the best i've managed to do is around four hours..

i don't know about others, as i don't paint them individually, i use the "Assembly line" Method(Take 5, Paint the legs of all first, then the arms, then the faces, and so on.) But i guess i could do it in 1-2 hours.

I reckon, using the assembly line method (5-10 models at a time) I can get a unit of 25 done in 10-15 hours overall. Of course, they aren't the best painted models in the world and I cheat a lot with washes, but they are of table top quality.

Characters normally take a bit longer per model, maybe 3-4 depending on what I go for.

Time seems to fly by when I'm painting or modelling anyway, so I don't really mind at all.

I do it better then that, most models are over 8 years old, still waiting to be painted  ;D
But if I do start on one and keep focus on that it would take me about 2-3 workdays for 1 rank and file model and 6-7 workdays for a character. In actual time line this would be 1 week for rank and file and 2-3 weeks for a character.

I've been tracking my progress on a blog...

http://paintmachine.blogspot.com/

However, these track how much time I spend on a unit of figures, step-by-step and total time at the end.

But that's painting only. So it doesn't include cleaning, filing, assembly, basing, etc.

They've been mostly non-GW figures so far, but my next batch will most likely be Warhammer figures.
