AoE3 is more tactical, but also less fun, since build limits mean you can't always zerg rush to victory.

As for the models, I have big plans for the command sprue, not so much the regular models though.

You have your zerg rushes in AOE3, but you still need to be a better player than your opponent to pull it off.

I just picked up the Asian Dynasties - the price finally dropped from £17.99

I just love the elephants.

Anyway having looked at the sprues, I think there is potential for some conversions, and it will be interesting to see how swordsmen (6th Ed.) militia arms work with the torsos.

I think WAB seems fine, and as for FoW and historical correct dudes, in what way have they crushed the inspired young, Shadowlord? Seems like an awful thing to do...

I have played eminent game Steel panters, made in 1995 and still do (computer game). A bit like FoW but on computer. I must admit I really would like to try FoW, but it is so many game systems and now I just want WWI minis to come out in Sweden so I can play The Great war.

But anyway, FoW, I would so like to do Finns, and I bet my son wants to do some german panzers. Well, early poles would rock aswell. But I also wanna do russians so I get more realistic fights against his germans. But hey, some odd scenario know and then is fun!
I remember one lovely Steel Panthers III, brigade command, game I played against my mate Tom. We decided to have a real infantry showdown between the two meanest infantry armies in the game, the hardcore finns, and the Diehard Japanase!

We set it in 1941, a hypotethical battle as if Japan had done some more border provokation and Stalin used the peace after the winter war to make a limited mutual defence pact with the finns, thereby forcing the finns to send some troops to the middle east.

It was a blast!!!

I left the medieval wargaming scene because of all the whining and political correctness.

Warhammer on the web, and even Champ Bitter TWF, is way more mild.

When you hear some ancient üba-nerd tell you "that's not where Wilhelm stood with his men at Hastings" and roll their eyes while doing so, you know there's gonna be trouble. It gets worse when you see the noobs of FoW with their newly painted tanks, proud as hell mind you that they completed an army, and the first remark they get from a WWII hobby vet is "How unrealistic you have painted your army" and shake their head in total disbelief.

Yeah, assholes like that exist in all spheres of wargaming alas, not just historical (and re-enacting and larping too, and RPGs)

As an aside, I reccomend a book called "Achtung Panzer" which is pretty much about a wargamer and the hobby (and a nice potted history of wargaming) and some of the wierdos that partake.

Around my parts, and across the bridge, it is more of a norm than rare occurance.

Warhammer don't have the same magnitude player by player.

Its less in Warhammer since a lot of the setting is so changable and subject to fluff, it happens more easily in historical since, well, things are definitive and documented a lot of the time.

The historical games I have played with have been happy to use proxies, and so never complain if a paint scheme isnt right for this period or that TEO etc, they realise that not everyone is anal enough or rich enough to have panzers represented in each phase of the war and in each front.

"unit nudging" is universal though

No just FoW and Medieval gamers (dunno how it is nowdays with the latter as I left the scene some years ago).

If I had been interested in WWII, Malmö is ripe and loaded with gamers.

Not as much as 40K, Blood Bowl and WFB but still plenty.

Besides, FoW is just an awesome production (almost with par on GW except the models).

Tell me about it, my real life best friend is a world expert. I can lose in 6 minutes and i'm actually quite good.

Anyone play Aoe2 online a few years ago? - like 2000ish. I ran the Moogle clan when I was a kid, wasn't a great clan but consistantly got into the top 10 on those clan rating websites based on people not being dicks. Was a well balanced game, spearmen > knights and skirmishers were awesome. Ahh those were the days.

My first and only FoW game was against an all infantry British army (Apart from 3 churchills), versus a single boxed set I bought. Tigers Marsch. 5 Tiger Tanks. Most one sided game I've ever seen. Never got to get into the system though, as my LGS closed down the FoW players only went there (at my club they play what seem to be warmaster based WW2 games).
