Can we speak with the factions before signing up with them?

Given that the Black Shield has its own agenda and not inconsiderable forces I am wondering if we can address letters to the faction leaders looking for the one who would best support the goals of the Order.

Since there are nine of them, that would be a bit of a fuss! Just choose one, or alternately let the campaign team assign you to one.
