Interesting discovery about Dominion. Because of how the sprues are put together you actually have a pretty large number of extra bits. The slight problem is how GW has started putting together these easy build stuff. Take the hobgoblins for example. Each sprue comes with enough to build 10 models, counting the command group of 3. But the command group can also be made into normal guys. But instead of chest and legs like how it use to be, its now split into front and back of the bodies. Take a standard bearer for example. If you make the standard you use the back body, put the front half on and boom, standard. But if you make a 'normal' guy you take the normal back, add the front part and boom. Normal guy.
Which leads to a weird result because when you finish make the 10 guys you actually have nearly 5 extra model! You have plenty of heads, 5 mostly complete bodies (Depending on how you built them) and they already have all the weapons attached. All your missing is bases (which is easy) and the front piece. To make it extra awkward the front piece is just one leg and the front armor. Its actually ridiculously easy to greenstuff a loin cloth on, fill in the big hole in the front, and make some kind of peg leg. I actually found a good picture online already.
I have very mixed feelings on this. On one hand with a bit of extra work I can actually make an extra 10 hobgoblins out of Dominion. On the other hand, it makes converting guys harder. I miss the old style of torso/legs/extremities. Made it much easier to mix and match, or kitbash. The storm cast also have a ton of extra parts, but most of the arms are designed to only fit specific bodies, the heads slot specifically into the big stormcast armor, and you end up with several "backs" with no fronts to attach them to. Meaning you'd need to sculpt almost an entire front. If somehow you do get an extra front, they often only fit specific ones which requires substantial greenstuff work.
Really weirds me out because GW still makes a huge push for kitbashing. its in all the white dwarfs and the community site constantly plays it up. But a huge number of the new kits are just designed very poorly for this. I'm being a bit unfair using Dominion here because as a starter kits its designed to be specifically easy to build (No one called out Island of Blood for being bad kitbashing), but I
also notice it with tons of new GW kids. I bought the Necromunda Enforcers box to make Inqusitorial Acolytes and had the same problem.
