Defenders of Auenwaldheim
« on: June 25, 2007, 05:29:00 PM »
Our brave Huntsmen, (may Morr grant them their longbows back in the afterlife), have given their last full measure of devotion to insure that one of their number could get back with this valuable intelligence.

It seems that we are tasked with providing a fitting reception to the greenskined horde.  I for one look forward to the challenge.  The thought of confrontation with our Dwaven friends of old does not sit well, even if they have temporarilly forgotten their customary manners.  Greenskins, however are a different matter.  Piled high in great bloody piles of corpses, they almost look like an expressionist painting.

I have no doubt that most are well aware of how to deal with these pests, but feel free to post questions and advise.

Now onto another matter. Just a short time ago, this town did not even have a name. Now that we do, Auenwaldhiem, we should come to a consensus regarding the general layout and feel for the town.  I was thinking of a small farm/forest town of about 1000 souls* that has clearly seen it's better days.  Certainly not the place that the cosmopolitan types on Altdorf would want to defend, let alone visit.  I want a gloomy feel.  Perhaps raining all of the time.  After all it's an Empire town, no matter how humble, and it's up to us to develop the fluff.

"No, no, no!  I told you to move that watch tower 50 yards to the left.  Not your  left, my left!  And the manure pile is suppose to be next to the stables, not the  bordello. Geeesh! It's so hard to get good help these days"

Well feel free to add or contradict and sharpen your swords.

Don't forget to register today.

* Swollen to two to three times that number with refugees from outlying farms and villages.

GW fluff states that towns have enough influence to get a charter, and usually have a wall.  I know that you stated that this town seems like one that would be on the decline, but what about a partial wall?  Collapsed in some areas, but a good starting point for a defense.

And perhaps a some what larger population.  I don't want to impose anything.  The more people who contribute, the richer the final description.

Agreed.  I wrote up a small bit about Waldberg, so if anyone wants to check the Talabec thread and give some insight on that as well.

It could go with a bit larger population, but I probably wouldn't think it should exceed 2-3,000.  I live in a town of 1,800 and I can see something about that big working.

Yeah, 1000 is a bit small to support a decent brothel.  Maybe about 2500 with an equal number of refugees from the outlying area.  There should be considerable friction between the townees and the refugees as it is still early summer, crops are not in, and supplies should be short.  The Defense Forces probably have to impose rationing, which will make the well to do very happy.

I have posted a notice on the Bretonnian Round Table offering to share our over abundance in greenskins.  It feels so good to share.  :engel:

Actually, that still seems a bit rural. Look how big it is! I'd say about 5000 people.

Perhaps it's best to avoid an exact #.  Suffice to say, the town is in a decline.  However refugees from outlying farms and villages would push the town to the breaking point.  Further, it is early summer.  Crops are not in, once food stocks are exhausted, the town faces starvation unless food can be convoyed.

Here's a rough sketch I made to give us maybe some visualization to what our fair town looks like based off of some of the info we've got.

It looks worse than I thought.   The Orcs appear to be coming from the south-west.  Perhaps we should just evacuate.  Is the issue of unnamed (by GW) sites resolved yet?

Sort of, but not really.  What I mean by that is:  There are only named sites in the drop down box, so we need to use one of the designated locations.  As far as fluff goes, in the report we need to write up our actions.

So, for example:  Post that your battle was at the Tower of Moonrise but in the fluff report talk about the brave defense of the unnamed town which is now known as Auenwaldheim.  Others who have experience with this have reaffirmed that our fluff will be taken seriously if we put in the effort on this.

Let's hope so.  I say give it a shot for a week and see what happens.  We'll reevaluate when the time comes.
