Suspect that was a worth attending. :icon_cool: :::cheers:::

It actually was, we couldn't believe he was even coming to our little local theatre in the first place, the missus just spotted it on social media the night before and we just thought we'd go for it and be impulsive (very unlike us!).

Tony was very interesting and engaging, did you know that as a child actor he was in the first EVER production of the stage show 'Oliver'?!

They found what seems to be the worlds deepest shipwreck, an American Destroyer sunk off the Philippines during WWII.

When much younger, in my teens, I read of this ship battle.  If it wasn't for this article, might never have read anything about it again, and probably what I can recall might have not ever been.

The sea battle was the last of any significance at the end of WW2 in the Pacific theater.  It was the only time that the largest battle ship of the Japanese Navy Yamoto engaged U.S. ships, and after taking heavy losses (3 heavy cruisers sunk, others dmaged) the Japanese ships returned to port, and did not leave again for open water the rest of the war.

Thanks a bunch for posting. :::cheers:::

I picked up an audio book on the Conquistador's. I've heard it three times so far.
I'm trying to find as much information about Alvar Nunez Cabaza de Vaca

It has been interesting times with folks coming out with new research on this.

Who is Alvar Nunez Cabaza de Vaca?

^ The poor guy is the most underrated true hero of the entire Conquistador saga.
After being shipwrecked and then being adrift at sea in a crude raft, he and four other men wind up in Galvaston [now Texas] and proceed to wander the wilderness for several years, acting as healers for the regional tribes. Nearly a decade later, they stumble across some Slavers and things go from bad to worse.
TLDR Version: Cabeza winds up back in Spain where he is criminalised for being 'nice' to the natives and nearly dies in poverty

Heard reference to the anniversary the other day, and came across this below today.

A video about the cameramen operating on D-Day in 1944 ...

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFkxH_qclYY

There is limited footage from the guy who shot the original film, and who was wounded that day on the beach, but continued to film before being evacuated.

This includes the film where some of the soldiers are dropping to the beach after being shot by the German soldiers from up on the bluffs, and the film of the soldiers that are dead in the water.

There were over 900 casualties of the approximately 2500 guys that landed on the beach shown here.

It's hard sometimes to comprehend this kind of stuff, and I am humbled by it.

The Australian government is in a quandary about what to do with skin heads, hate groups and other assorted troglodytes.
Didn't we go to war to stop them in the first place!
