Icelanders seem to be quite interested in hiking up to the location where a volcano has erupted in Geldingadalur, Iceland.

It seems the three openings that were present and close to each other when the volcano strated a few days ago now combined into one, and the mountain of cooling lava seems to be growing higher.

The first video says that over a thousand people hiked up into the area on Wednesday, and some of the hikers weren't really prepared for the journey up into the location of the volcano with folks being picked up by officials flying helicopters into the area.

This one seems to be mostly smoke and ash as of this post. However, it isn't new, and has erupted 23 times since the Spanish conquests in the 1500s, and geologists say it has been active for the last 23,000 years.

There are shots showing the ash falling in streets, and one at about 5 minutes and 30 secoinds showing a guy sweeping an inch of ash off the sidewalk.

Newest video from today ... quick and quite the view being shown here ... if you look closely you can see where below the fissure, that has now opened up quite a bit, is the previous two smaller craters where the lava first started, plus this shows the full length of the lava from high up in the air, and shows just how much larger the flow has become ...

The map shows the access road to the south, plus it looks like a pair of trails, and the projected paths that the lava chamber below the earth's surface has sufficient lava in it to continue to makes it's flow down hill to the ocean. This volcano area hasn't erupted in approximately 800 years, and there are scientists that are thinking this could very well get to the ocean, and could be flowing for a lengthy time maybe 10 to 15 years is one projection that was made.

The new fissure seems to have more strength behind it than the first volcano, and the first seems to have currently dulled considerably. The new fissure in essence has turned into a higher part of this overall volcano. Such fissure was expected by scientists, yet not as far apart as these two have developed.

Also, the following link is from today, and shows how much more lava has now flowed down inot another valley and the route it is taking together, all from the ground level viewpoint ...

Have you been following this? It's been an amazing ride so far. Ya never know when something new happens. Sometimes the volume of lava flowing dies down, smoke arises, and then the lava picks back up. Today the cameras showed snow in Iceland, that never happens there ... lol, and in the background of the filming with the volcanoes spitting up more lava.

The La Soufriere volcano on the Island of St. Vincent in the Caribbean just erupted yesterday for the first time since 1977.

Reports are saying that residents of the island are fleeing their homes, and some are being evacuated from the island. It was also reported that a dust clown was as high as 20,000 feet, and ash had fallen on some of the villages near the volcano.

Not sure why I am so fascinated with the volcano in Iceland.

It is good that it doesn't seem to be threatening a small town or village like so many others do across the globe. It feels good to have it in the wilderness, so to speak, although I understand that the gases coming from it can pass over communities in Iceland, including the capital.
