Things we Want in the next Elderscrolls Game
« on: July 17, 2024, 07:22:44 PM »
Eventually they will decide updating Skyrim is not enough anymore and they have to move onto the next elderscrolls game. So if and when they get to number 6, what do we want to see?

Me personally, and as someone that has only played Skyrim:

1. More diverse romancable options. I expect whatever area we go to next, be it Hammerfall or the where the Bosmer live, they will be the majority with a handful of others here and there. Going by Skyrim that usually meant Nord and Bretton depending on the area, which is to be expected. But despite an influx of Dunmer, and the presence of Orcs due to the Imperial presence and the Strongholds, there are only a handful of options there. Sae with Imperials. There is 1 Redguard and Altmer, 3 Angorian, and no Bosmer or Khajite. I am not saying there has to be hundreds per race, that would be prohibitively difficult especially with what I will talk about in number 2, but diversity is a nice thing.

2. Beter Romance. I am not asking for scenes that would need a fade to black, that might either take away from the game if done in house. However most cases in Skyrim its: I do something nice to you, and we can get hitched. The Nice Guy dream come true.

Maybe add a couple of steps to the courting, with some easier than others. Some generic ones say for Warrior, Mage, Theif, Ranger. Gift Giveing (simalar to the chldren, but add flowers or maybe something specific to them such as armor types, arrowws, soul gems and so on).
Ten the other stuff that comes around relationships. Arguments, sweet talk, doing nice things for eachother because its nice and you appriciate eachother.

Depending on the Player race and the romanced NPC, maybe taking in tensions due to classism ad racism. Having to come to their defense at this, or or be defended against, or hear people make coments (ranging from adorable to looking for a fight). Something!

Using Skyrim as an example: I would expect most Nords to be OK with Nord x Nord.

3. Improve the Kids. Lets face it, they all look the same. Some are suppose to be Red Guard, which have an African influence to them, but I could not tell them appart from the others no matter how much I tried. Also some uncanny valley. Also why were all the kids human in Skyrim? Mods aside, you are saying a Orc Cheiften isn't making some kids and has none adult children around? No Dunmer children fleeing with their families from Morrowind, or in the that island in the Dragonborn DLC? Also if you are give us a chance to adopt, why do we only get 2 beds? 2 kids in the wilds? Sure you can live with me. 2 more kids? Stuck living on what you can get by with what you can scrounge around.

4. Bigger Library you can build. Not all books I want, but have one big enough for all of the ones you can get in game.

5. Fix some of the perks. Some are usless, some are not used if given a choice. In the case of perks that increase criticles on weapons, they do it on the base weapon not what it can do due to potions, enchantments, smithing, and how leveled up in that skill tree you are. Just fix it.

6. More weapon varieties. Spears used to be an option in earlier games, and the only throwing knife in the game is used by the mad Jester in the Dark Brotherhood questline.  So why not have them back? Also a skill tree dedicated to pugilism. You get in enough brawls in the game, and Angorians and Khajite have a bonus due to their claws, so why not build around this?

7. Have Magic attacks increase damage delt by how much you level up in them like with mundane weapons. As is you want to do more damage in with a destruction spell, its get a higher ranked spell. For a magic heavy build, it be nice to have more options that doesn't require tons of magika potons.

8. Make Wards better. As they eat up Magika when used, its better to take resist magic/specific elements enchantments and potions while going offensive with weapons or your own magic. If you take the shield Spellbreaker, then you can take some of the Perks from Restoration school to boost it but otherwise most player do not use them. One idea would to have them act like shields. Conjuring them would use up some magika like summon spell, with more powerful ones taking more magic. Have them more effective against spells, but also an impromptu defense against a berserker with a battle ax. Maybe have them break if they take enough damage after a while, but it would make them more useful as is.

So what are your thoughts and ideas

Everytime I play Skyrim, I only get a few hours in and then go and do something else.
I played a bit of Oblivion back in the day when that was new too.

I am keen to start playing Fallout - inspired by the TV show.

What I would be keen on seeing in a new Elderscrolls....

Population of towns
More NPCs and buildings in the towns.
Make the cities feel lived in and populated, rather than big settlements with only 30 people living in them.

World thats alive
Other events and things happening on during the year, with or without the player being there.
Festival days, birthdays, whatever. Make the world feel like it moves and changes, rather than everything static waiting for the player to witness and interract.

Equipment that matters
Equipment that helps traversal.
Boots for Snow, otherwise frost damage, a cloak required to protect against the elements, people interacting differently with you if you walk around town in war gear vs civilian clothes, backpacks (I realise these have now been added) and horse packs, etc. that can help with burdens. If you get a horse, it should have packs to carry lots of weight.

Encumberance
A better way to deal with loot in dungeons.
I know i can't let weapons and armour just sit there, and I need to loot and leave a dungeon sometimes 10-20 times to be able to sell all the equipment. There has to be a better way, rather than just ignoring it. For example, if start a dungeon, a button that when you try and loot someone, and you are close to being overencumbered, that rather than needing to run things back and forth, it can magically transport to a crate or storage place at the start of the dungeon, making it easy to come back and recover it with a horse.

Relationships
I agree with the relationships thing. KOTOR did it much better, and that's pretty old now.

Battles.
Somehow incorporate some actual battles with heaps of NPCs and enemies. Proper battles with huge numbers.

Equipment
Don't make all the high end equipment look weird, or allow low level equipment to level up to equivalent levels.
Some of the early equipment aesthetics is much more appealing to my role play, than all the weird looking high end stuff.

Weapons
I agree with variety. Look at all the different Warhammer weapons for inspiration. Spears, Polearms, whips, flails, javelins, throwing axes, throwing knives, blowpipes, crossbows, etc. Different shields with different affects - buckler for speed, tower shields for high defense, etc.

I hate people who don't paint their armies, hate them with all my guts. Beats me how they value other things over painting, like eating or brushing teeth.
