I feel like sharing infantry formation 5x5, 6x4, etc) would help visualise. Right now I am wondering why you need 3 infantry units, no scouts or knights? I also think pistoliers are terrible, but I know you like them.

Spears are 6 x 4 ish and halberds were 7 x 3 ish. I traditionally go 3 combat blocks normally with supporting flanking units. If the opposition can't stop 3 blocks then you have flanking opportunities with your blocks.

A stank could take the place of a combat block. General and bsb go in units. Wizard by himself lone character. Same with engineer. Nice thing on pigeon bombs is you don't need LOS so he can go where needed for warmachines support behind the lines and contribute.

Pistoliers take place of scouts usually set up in marching column if I want more control 24 inch move. If I need them to tie up say snotlings I'll go in combat formation at the start. I always start in open order otherwise you have zero control on the pistoliers. Pistoliers buy me more rounds of shooting and free up my flanking units ( Demi's and knights) from  being distracted by chaff.

Peg Captain hangs with knights in marching column and can't be targeted until a knight is killed.
