This "poll" was an idea from Zygmund, thank you! :icon_cool:

And the main question is ...

How Many Different Fantasy Battle Miniature Games Have You Played?

And to be clear, this is not referring to the number of Warhammer Fantasy Battle editions you've played, because there's a "poll" here for that already.  Nor is it suppose to include the number of editions of other fantasy battle games that may have been played.  So feel free to count Warhammer Fantasy Battle or other fantasy battle game systems as one each in your count.

Games by GW like Man O'War, Mordheim, and Warbands ... those can count as separate fantasy battle games.  And this may be an issue for some, although feel free to count W:AoS as a separate system if you'd like or not.

Of course there are others, although not limited to the following ... 9th Age, Kings Of War, Frostgrave, Dragon Rampant, Blood Bowl, Lord of the Rings Battle Game, Warmachine, Songs of Blades and Heros, Mage Knight, Malifaux, Warlords of Erehwon, etc.

... And two more questions ...

1.  Which fantasy miniature battle game systems have you played?

2.  Which fantasy miniature battle game systems have you enjoyed and why?

Also, this poll will remain open so that folks can come back and change their number as they play new games along the way.

I'm interested in adding other names of fantasy battle systems to the list above, and feel free to ask questions, too.

1.  So far I have played only 3 ... WFB, Man O'War, and Warbands.

2.  I've enjoyed playing all three of those, and this is mostly likely because of the fluff and the figures.

I'm looking forward to making up a Dragon Rampant army at some point and giving a go to those rules, which because I've played Lion Rampant, there is already familiarity with the system.  However, I haven't counted Lion Rampant, although I do use it for fantasy games.

1.  Well, I hit 4 for the poll...but in typing this out I realized it's at least 5 - WHFB, Mordheim, Wyrdwars, GW's Lord of the Rings system, and Frostgrave.  I'm betting I've played a few more but can't think of them offhand.

2.  I love LotR for take-your-time battles, particularly siege attacks, where a few key soldiers can make the difference on the ramparts.  Mordheim is a lot of fun with the right group.  And WHFB does small field battles very nicely.

I would like to find/work out a 15mm (or maybe 10mm?) fantasy system at some point, just to do really major battles.  I haven't tried Warmaster and don't have the minis for it, but there are plenty of 15mm suppliers out there, and those armies are much cheaper than building another Warhammer one.  =)

Immediately below the "poll" area there is a "Remove Vote" button that if you click it, then you can change your pick from 4 to 5.

I haven't voted yet because Im considering how I want to answer. Technically speaking I've played a lot. The local game club has a 'one shot Sundays' where they play a different game every week and I often join in. But the thing is I don't usually play more then one game. So technically I've played like dozens of different games, but only once. Things I've actually played more then once are much smaller.
Frostgrave
warhammer
Age of Sigmar
Mordheim
Lord of the Rings
War Machine
Dragon Ramptant (5 games, but pretty casual)
Man o War

So 8 so far that's actually been played a bunch.

I was just about to ask a version of Gankom's question. I have played a single game of Mordheim, for example. Does a single game count?

If not, then my answer is one, being WFB from 1983 - 2020. My philosophy in life: Why play another battle game when you can play WFB? (Also, if there's something that bugs you in WFB, house-rule a better way with friends and then continue playing.)
Photobucket has now re-destroyed my pictures, so the first half of my collected works thread is no longer working again. To see my website version of the campaign thread, with fully functioning pictures, please go to https://bigsmallworlds.com/

The "one game of" is a very good question.

As an example, I vaguely recall playing one game of Mordheim too.  I liked it, yet haven't gone back.  Decided not to count it in my total, because i didn't want to have to list it as a game I've played, because it feels like I really haven't played it.  If that makes any sense.

However, some folks in life might not see it this the same way, so if they want to count it, who am I to judge.

And I see Michael W switched form 4 to 5. :::cheers:::

And Gankom ... remember a person can always make their mark on the "poll", and come back another time and add to their count by using the remove vote button just under the poll area.

I'm doing this post first to see what my tally is :)

Quote
1.  Which fantasy miniature battle game systems have you played?

Warhammer Fantasy Battles
Age of Sigmar (I'll count this seperate)
Warcry
Frostgrave

Into miniature boadgames, not sure that counts, but lots of minis in these games:
Silver Tower
Gorechosen (though played with only a few models but from the AoS system)
Zombicide
Descent 2
Dungeons & Dragons (the board game)

2.  Which fantasy miniature battle game systems have you enjoyed and why?

Actually all of them, they all had their own charm and I must say that I usually scope out a game before trying it so usually I'm pretty confident I like it.

Conclusion fo the poll.. I'll keep out the miniature board games so ending up with 4

Yep, this "poll" was not meant for fantasy board games nor fantasy role playing games. :::cheers:::

Interesting that as of this post 30 folks have answered the "poll" on which Warhmmer edition they started with, but only 7 folks have answered here.

1.  Which fantasy miniature battle game systems have you played?

My first one was the TSR/Ral Partha one. Was it called Battlesystem? I also read the Grenadier Fantasy Warriors at the time. My memory is blurred. I just tested one of the games, alone, and didn't really make a full army. Just a couple of minimum units for testing. Before I returned to the classic cardboard token games.

Warhammer Fantasy Battles of course. Eds. 5, 6, 7, 8 - and after these the 3rd too. The 5th ed. only once. Didn't understand much.

Mordheim. (Although probably more WHFB Skirmish.) But is it a battle game?

Kings of War.

9th Age.

Warlords of Erehwon.

Hail Caesar slightly adapted to fantasy. It should come out under its own title some day.

2.  Which fantasy miniature battle game systems have you enjoyed and why?

I've enjoyed every game system I've played - minus Warlords of Erehwon. That game has so obviously a rifle era game engine that it is ill suited for fantasy gaming. A real pity Priestley couldn't do better, given the chance. Also, WHFB 8th ed. was so obviously unbalanced, between the armies and within individual army books, that it could severely hamper even friendly games. And it had too much of spectacular nonsense to my taste.

I've also enjoyed reading several other fantasy battle game systems that I haven't thus far played.

Haven't played any fantasy battle games for over a year now. Strangely, I don't miss playing games. I just build and paint the figurines, and play with them. Toy with them?  :icon_razz:

Too many to list, some of my favorites are Fantasy Warriors (Grenadier), Slaughterloo (Alternative Armies), Armageddon (EDFC), Erin (Alternative Armies), Warzone (Target Games) and Fairy Meat (Kenzer).
