Epic
« on: April 30, 2009, 06:28:57 PM »
I've been thinking of getting into 40K, but not sure if I want to drop the cash on something I may not play a lot.  Thinking of Epic, and being told GW still sells some stuff for this (complete surprise to me by the by) I wondered if this was a good cost effective alternate.

Anyone play(ed) this?  What are your thoughts on the game and any advice for wanting to start up an army.

Word of warning. The prices for anything metal in Epic are now officially OBSCENE.

I like the game, but will you be able to find anyone to play it?

I have a very small IG force- just some tanks and infantry.
I don't care about the rules.

I've got a friend who is also interested, so that part of it wouldn't really be that big of a deal.  We both wanted to maybe try our hand at 40K, but thought this would be easier to get into.  If I was going at this alone I probably wouldn't get into it.

Just do warmaster instead, then you won't have to deal in any part with that 40k universe crap.

Hey! It is grim and dark and, and GRIMDARK!
But seriously, I like the "Imperium of Man" fluff. It is so over-the-top-dark and depressing you just gotta love it.  :-D

Silly Aldaris, like all of the Emperors playthings and puppets, you shall burn.

Well, my friend does have some Warmaster stuff.  So if anyone has any info on that, go ahead and throw it down.  I'm willing to listen.

I would make some sort of chaos insult here, but I am joining you on this one as far as 40k goes. (meaning I am collecting CSM)

Hey, in the Imperium you just wait for something unbelievably nasty and horrible to drop by and kill you in an unbelievably nasty and horrible way. More likely than not your own side.
So of course we shall burn.

The game is quite simple and fun. Makes it fast pace with a lot of damage.
What I want to do is combine an epic and 40k campaign... so ambitious!

I bought a gigantic warmaster Kislev army that is still in it's package, I wish someone would do a campaign out my way so I would have motivation to open them and play.

Shouldn't it be "Or you can give it to me.... :engel:"

I think I am going to keep it around for awhile.

More on-topic, I agree.
I love the idea of taking to the field with a huge Imperial Guard tank company.........

The imperial guard has all the best stuff.

I think the epic 40K rules let you have a space ship in orbit that shoots into the battle. I really like that idea, for some reason.

Ever since command and conquer, I've loved the idea of either orbiting satellites or spaceships blasting stuff on the battlefield.

Is it the super villian inside you laughing maniacally as you push a big red button, shooting a huge-ass laser onto the unwary troops below?

I think thats the same as the "cannon" mentality.

This thread is making me want to get back into epic properly.
They are really easy to paint and look ace too.

base it nicely
paint the hat and gun green, brown outfit, black boots, bleached bone sash, and add metal detail: done.
I don't care about the rules.

Pass the machete.
