yep bro that was their plan, a screen for the greatswords :)

I knew I should have charged 1 halberd unit in alone, then the 2nd after they fled though,

double loss run, squish was a travesty !

I blame Volks, lol

Stupid IF Felsh to Stone spell at just the right time. Those damn greatswords were unkillable!

And regarding the two halberdier units, they were facing like 6/700 points of Iron Breakers and Dwarf Lord...if they hadnt lost I'd have been upset.

Funniest though was my dwarves running down and killing Volks general...on his horse...with his knights...

 That is funny...  apparently those horses did not hail from Averland, since they tend to breed the fastest horses in the Empire.

Hard to tell from that picture mate...but it looks like the Citadel general that typically has two wings on his back to me.

So , it's been niggling at me for some time.

I need to create Karl Franz on a Dragon!

This might seem crazy, but I love the Dark Elf black dragon model, and am considering combining it with Valten !

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440023a&prodId=prod1130381&rootCatGameStyle=

Does any1 have any suggestions for an alternative mounted empire character model?

I think the Valten model is amazing

Ok so I have assembled Karl Franz's steed!

Very interested in comments regarding colour choice here?

What do you recon?

I'm stuck at the mo,

also the Valten model is not suitable as the metal sculpt arrived and he is sandwiched to the horses head etc, and has a metal robe also,

so comments regarding a suitable rider for KF would be very welcomed

I vote for a green dragon. I have no reasoning behind that other than it would be cool to see something different.

And I bet I know what would make a cool Karl Franz to go on it... Karl Franz!  :-P

I've always planned to use one of the older White Wolf knights as my hero on griffon/dragon (modular if possible, to ride both). But, I tend to like slightly more understated figures for my heroes:

One of the hammer-swingers here:  http://solegends.com/citcat9x3/c92344empcav-02.jpg

You could use Borgio from the DoW range. I converted him to have a lance for my Empire, and I really like the look of him:

Maybe something like this Perry standard bearer, standard swapped for an axe or hammer or something:

Or the heroic chap in the middle here?

interesting ideas!

It needs to be something so rare and unique that it has shock factor!

I'm thinking an old marauder model,

converted to carry the KF model hammer Gharl Maraz

cost is no obstacle here,

lol

Thats one Toothy dragon eh?

I like the figures that cjp proposed but feel they aren't "fantastic" enough for this dragon.  Perhaps find the old Marauder KF figure?

Cheers,

Hmm, Im not familiar with many wayyy OOP models, but the old MB15 pegasus rider is pretty cool:

http://www.solegends.com/citcat9x3/c92420marempheropegasus-01.htm

The problem is a lot of the older OOP stuff has a more 'simple' sculpting style.  I think you need something from the 90's and onwards to match that dragon.

I would use a combination of general kit, Karl franz head (see silicone/greenstuff molds) and engineer/pistolier hand weapons. and any other bits that you may wish to throw in from anywhere, of course he would have side weapons/sword/hammer etc., but I would give him repeater pistols like the engineer ones, reason being, what do you think he would probably hit if he was swinging a big sword from the dragon's back? or imagine a hammer blow breaking a wing or bopping the dragon in the head=a quick change of allegiance by the dragon. obviously hand guns would extend the reach of the rider and still allow hand to hand combat with the survivors.  just my opinion. steveb

I'm using Borgio the besieger as a rider ( haven't painted him yet), and as you live on the other side of the planet, there wouldn't be any harm in duplicating him.
