It is clear now (2003 annual) that destroyed warmachines cause panic to any unit within ?6? inches.  However, what about a warmachine that misfires and then is destroyed.  By the letter of the rules, all friendly units within ?6? inches need to take a panic test.

What do you think?

My opinion is that they don't.  Why?  If you are an Empire soldier you are used to warmachines blowing up all the time:)

However, I would say that it does cause panic, just like I would want it to cause panic in Skaven weapons teams when they blow themselves up.

I just think it is bizarro, that a unit of 30 that watches a unit of 29 flee by them, doesn't take a panic check, but an artillery piece blowing itself up would.  Then again, common sense and warhammer have nothing to do with each other.

Skaven weapon teams are considered one model are they not?  If that's the case, then the Skaven need not worry about panic checks.

Crap you are correct!  I forgot weapons teams are a single model, but they do have a US of 2.  So what is the answer?

No panic unless the one model has a US of 5+.  Normal chariots don't cause panic for example.

As for the answer.  There was a Q&A question that simply asked, "do destroyed warmachines cause panic?"  The answer was a straightforward, "Yes."  There was no depends upon, or but's about it.  So yeah, they do cause panic checks.

Yet another rule that the Skaven happily disregard.  Thanks Again, Alessio!  I do find it ironic that I so happily bust on the guy that created an excellent Empire rulebook.  I guess that's what happens when your change your design style from "Step 1: Creating a theme" to "Step 1: Throw away rulebook."
