hi guys, thought i'd share a batrep with you after my first trial of the war altar and witch hunter!
i was playing at the club and had no idea what army i'd be up against so went for an all-rounder:

his xbows are in and around a tower. green circles are trees, grey lines are walls and my artillery is on a hill at bottom of map.
so i checked with him he knew that the DG's cant attack from the second rank and he said, "yeah i find the extra rank helps for CR though" i mentioned the +1CR banner but he was unfazed by this revalation lol. i declared his BSB to be a heretic as the lvl4 was miles away.
he got first turn, counter batteried 1 cannon and moved up. nothing was in range for shadow, so i scrolled a 6 diced searing doom on the stank as he rolled nearly all fives, and i needed the stank to pin the DG's in place. his xbows open up for an excellent round of shooting and take a rank off my halberd horde at long range.

in my turn, i charge the DG's with my nilla knights so they dont get an overrun and end up in my backfield. i move the peggy cap up for some witch hunting action, the witch hunter and archers move up too. stank gets 3 steam and moves up to block the DG's next turn.
i get off a comet near the tower to thin out some shooters and my cannon kills his cannon.
my nilla knights lose combat by four but miraculously hold!

his turn two sees his sword blocks moving forward, the comet coming down and decimating the xbows and a failed two dice boosted miasma stopping his phase before it really began. he six diced searing doom but failed to IF, so i shut it down with my dice.

my turn two sees my stank hit the DG's, the peggy cap charged the deep spears (putting all attacks on the lvl4) and the archer/WH move into pistol range. main infantry blocks hang back as dont want to walk into a withering hail of fire and pit of shades if we dont need to. altar moves up to support gswords and archers, gswords move up to catch the overruns when the archers get charged next turn. iceshard goes off on the sword block to help out my WH, comet goes off again.

stank does a lot of wounds on the DG's and we win combat this turn, but they hold, using their GP. peggy cap puts a wound on the lvl4 + stomp on the spears but loses on CR, holds though.

in his next run, the swords charge the archers who stand and shoot (going for a lucky snipe

) my witch hunter finishes his bsb in combat (good work that man!), but they lose many models to hatred re-rolls and the witch hunter is the last man standing. he flees safely and the swords test to restrain pursuit. he screws his magic phase *again* going for the 2 dice boosted miasma and failing. throws some bound spells instead but i shut them down. another wound goes onto the lvl4, the peggy holds. stank and knights hold as their attacks mainly bounce off the 1+'s (stank took a wound or two)

at this point my opponent is on the rails really, so i move in for the kill and declare charges with the greatswords and altar into the swords +detach.
magic is good for me, comet goes off near tower again, iceshard goes off on main swords block, and hammer of sigmar and 5++ go off from the altar! clearly sigmar supports the men of the empire and not the tilean scum

stank gets 4 SP and prepares to grind and steam gun.
my cannon finishes off the hbvg this turn and the greatswords + altar wreck house on the swords block. 22 wounds caused by gswords and 5 from the altar leaves a snakeyes with no -rerolls. opponent conceeds!

glorious run out for my new toys, both performed admirably.
he really could have put the hurt on with a decent magic phase but he kept screwing himself over by not making sure his first cast was a safe one.
he went very core-heavy expecting to get magic off to support and ultimately it didnt work out for him. enjoyed the game though, and a good result for me
