RT tommorrow & Grutch told me not to take the "chee
« on: June 28, 2003, 04:26:34 PM »
Okay, I was chatting with Grutch last night and he felt that my Vampire Slayer Bde, would be my best all around army for the RT tomorrow.  I'm still writing my "fluff" for this army and will post it on the site soon.  Basically, Von Aichmaan is a victim of a family curse by an ancient relative that was turned into a vampire.  As part of the vampire's revenge, he has killed his oldest brother, diseased his middle brother, and left the "weakest" link, the third son to survive, so that he can carry on the name and further weaken the line.  Part of his nefarious plot, has been to convince Hoorst Kurtzman, a Death Wizard Lord, to join him.  Horst was the representative for the Death Wizard's in the College of Magic.  He has been seduced by the evil vampire and given an insatiable thirst for power.  The vampire has given Hoorst the location of an ancient book lost during the failed Von Carstein conquest of Altdorf.  Hoorst has now found the book, and Von Aichmaan, learning of this plot is out to get him!

Nuff Fluff!

Von Aichmaan’s Brigade
“The Vampire Slayers”
circa:  The Slyvania Crusade

Count Von Aichmaan
Elector Count, Great Weapon, Van Hoostman’s Speculum, Armor of Meteroic Iron (Leads Von Aichmaan’s Bde-Swordsmen)

Wilhelm Goering
Warrior Priest of Sigmar, Heavy Armor, Barded Steed, Great Hammer, ICON OF MAGNUS

Hauptman Fisiel, sub-Lector of Altdorf, Champion of the Empire
Battle Captain, Pegasus, Full Plate Armor, Shield, Lance

Keeper of the Flame, Fredrick Grafel,
Wizard Level One, Two Dispel Scrolls

Total Characters:  509

Von Aichmaan’s Brigade
24 Swordsmen, Griffon Standard

Detachment#1
10 Crossbowmen

Detachment#2
10 Halberdiers

Von Aichmaan’s Scouts
5 Huntsmen

1st Home Guard Regiment, Engineer School of Altdorf
10 Handgunners, Marksman, Hochland Long Rifle

The Emperor's Own
5 Inner Circle Knights, Full Command (lead by WP of Sigmar), War Banner

Panterus Primus, Claws of the Panther, Panterus Aldorf
5 Knights, Full Command

Total Core:  891

Special Troops:
Von Aichmaan's Own
20 Great Swords Full Command

Detachment #1
5 halberdiers

Detachment#2
8 Free Company

1 Great Cannon

1 Mortar

Rare Troops:
10 Flagellants
1 Hellblaster Volley Gun

Pretty basic list:

Fast Elements include both units of knights and the Battle Captain.

March Blockers, Huntsmen, Battle Captain, Detachments in a pinch

Holding Elements, Swordsmen, Handgunners, Greatsworsds, Flagellants

Anti-Magic-Battle Captain, Wizard, Hochland Long Rifle

The Shooters-Great Cannon, Mortar, Hellblaster Volley Gun, 10 handgunners, 5 huntsmen, 10 crossbowmen

As you can see, the Battle Captain is a central part of the strategy and has multiple roles.  Against certain foes, I can detach the WP of Sigmar from his unit and run him back to help out against fear.  I'm hoping with fairly large units, clustered around the EC, that I can pass most leadership checks.  The missile troops are there to reduce US of the enemy.

Any suggestions?  I had to drop a second wizard to get the Battle Captain, usually my WP is my "swing" character, but in most RTs lately, magic hasn't been all that bad.  Plus, in the "real" campaign, the Pegaus and the Huntsmen were the scouts for the army.  My biggest debate is whether to drop the Battle Captain, and just get a BSB. In addition, I'm thinking of taking the halberdier detachment from the greatwords and putting it with the Handgunners to divert stuff.  I also have thought about dropping the crossbows for more handguns but it fits the fluff of wooden stakes :)

Okay, my friend Carl and I drove 1.5 hours to this RT which only one other person showed up for!  Carl and I played a fun game between his Lizards and my Empire, my Empire prevailed, mainly due to my Pegasus riding Battle Captain!  My EC did squat just lending his leadership to the army.  I'm starting to think that putting him out there with FPA, Enchanted Shield, and the Holy Relic is the way to go.  Most people avoid his unit, since it has detachments, and usually a Hellblaster posted nearby.

Later, Carl wanted a change of pace to practice for the Charlotte GT.  I played my VC Von Carstein army.  What a rout!  That army is so nasty I hate to play with it almost as much as I hate to play against it!!!

I took an extra scroll caddy out of my army to add a WP of Sigmar.  With 8 or more power dice and a couple of bound spells, I don't know if an Empire army can have enough anti-magic to stop a high powered VC army.
