Some Great Painting Tutorials
« on: June 10, 2020, 03:06:08 AM »
I looked around a few pages in the B&P but didn't see any mention of it so I thought I might start a thread on painting tutorials. Here's what I've been watching, just in case it helps others in their never-ending quest to paint or try new things.

My wife and I have been watching a lot of painting tutorials from Warhammer TV on youtube. We've mostly been watching 40k ones, but they do AoS and other GW titles as well which can be ported to WHFB or AoS. Honestly the main painting teacher, Duncan "Two Thin Coats" Rhodes, has become the patron saint of the hobby on reddit. I don't know what it is about his painting tutorials, but they are soothing and are almost like watching Bob Ross videos, but for GW miniatures. They can teach you how to paint to the quality that you see in an army book or codex from GW. These tutorials can range from a 2 minute tip about highlighting, to a medium 10-15 minute tutorial on painting a whole model for table top, to a 30 minute video on painting a model that is impressive enough to win a golden daemon award. Its also just nice to have on in the background while you paint!

Speaking of Duncan Rhodes, he has also started his own channel Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy where he paints all kinds of miniatures, from WH40K to Star Wars to Game of Thrones. I really liked his Sisters of Battle painting tutorial. Its magnificent! *chef kiss*

Seriously, Duncan can make you feel like any daunting miniature project is a cinch to paint!

Another good YT channel to watch is MiniWarGaming Studios (or MWG Studios). They have some amazing painting tutorials and Bat-Reps.

Another nice channel is HobbyHotTips. Her videos are great, especially when it comes to making bases for you minis! The bases can be very creative. She hadn't posted anything new for 6 years until a couple of days ago, she posted a slew of new painting tip videos.

Feel free to add to the this thread so we can share some great tutorials for the rookies starting out, to the veterans that may want to try something new!  :::cheers:::

Duncan left GW to start for his own. But that is another story all together. And I also like Peachy painting on the WarhammerTV

I don't like the MWG ones, atleast not their Bat-reps, haven't really looked at their painting stuff though

anything hobby related work I like to listen to Tabletop Minions https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2CKTY1TXQ4YQ3AHvyCgtbQ
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

Yeah Peachy is alright, I am glad they fixed the camera for him considering he's left handed.

I ended up subscribing to Duncan's website/company and there are some great videos there. I am going to be painting my Imperial Fist the way he did there.

I liked their Batt-reps about half the time. Really depends on who is playing. Some of their painting videos are cool, but I have found better ones over theirs. Squidmar is also a nice channel.
