Random 10mm Terrain Pieces
« on: March 27, 2024, 05:36:27 PM »
WFB 3rd edition has a random terrain set up system (D100), as such I find myself making odd bits of terrain so that I can make full use of the list.
(I have modified the list from the book ever so slightly)

Part One: here is 94-96.   Earthworks/Emplacement.

Beautiful!

I used to have an N-gauge model railway, 1:148 or 12mm. Loved how much scenery you could fit in the small scale. Had a whole town built, stone-paved roads, flowers under the windows. Modeling at that scale is fun & different from 28mm or larger military model scales.

Part Two: here is 80-81.   Inn and Stables
(Modular so I can use the Inn part on its own.)

Thanks.

As with much for 3rd edition, the terrain rules are administered by a GM, but it is easy enough to convert the process for just 2 players.

I'm so glad to see this done in style!  :eusa_clap:

I vividly remember: It was the fall of 1989 and I was sitting with a friend in my room, and we were cutting N-scale gravestones from hard plastic sheet. However, in the end I realized we had cut them too big. They would have been towering lumps of stone, huge crosses and stelae.

I lost my nerve and didn't do another round of cutting and filing. So I didn't finish them. Had the walls and foliage waiting, and the church built, but never finished the churchyard with the cemetery.

They might still lay somewhere in boxes at my parents'.

Thanks, it took longer than planned due to this:

I was going to make stone/brick posts and have the railings between them, but I just wanted to get it done...

You ever think about 10mm WFB?

Awww... That's either dedication or pure madness, or perhaps both.

You ever think about 10mm WFB?

Not really WFP. I collected Empire, Dwarfs and O&G for Warmaster, but have sold all of it. Just kept some trolls to use as snotlings in 28mm. I don't have the time to play many different games, and enjoy painting 28mm the most.

I would be very happy if my 28mm buildings looked this good!

Care to explain how you did the torn cloth in the blades?

Thanks.
Normally I use wet wipes/baby wipes as the material.
I did not have any to hand this time so used toilet roll.

Rip roughly to shape.
Use PVA to attach them to the blades, when that has set, a number of very gently applied layers of Mod Podge. (with a cheap brush)
I suspect watered down PVA would work too.
Just lots of careful layers until it is robust (ish) and hey presto.

Wipes are good as you can roughly mould them into the shape you want and they mostly stay like that as they dry.

Here is 45-64.   Woods/Copse/Orchard.

As the trees are fixed, moving models into the orchard would be impossible, so I took a photo of the orchard and printed it out and laminated it.
So when a unit moves into the trees, replace the model with the laminated photo.

PS: Any interest in my 10mm Empire army?

Seems to only be a couple of people here paying 10mm any attention.   :D   :(

When I decided to get back into WFB 4 years ago I nearly went for 15mm myself, but at the time space really was limited so 10mm won out.
Do you have a topic on here for your 15mm?

Not yet but I will soon.   I'm still working on how to both take decent picture of something that small and how to post picture here.   Taking the pictures is a big difficult for me. My painting is bad enough without bad photo as well

I saw some of your work during a paint & chat some years (!) ago. They looked really good. Don't be ashamed. Take a photo of several units or the whole army, that would be true to the idea of having an army made of very small models.

Hey, post anything you want to, or not.
There is zero obligation.
But if you do decide to start a topic on your 15mm Empire I would be glad to see it.
