Topic: Blood Bowl

Hi all.
I'm looking to start playing Blood Bowl.
However, I have no idea what differences between teams are, and suchlike.
Any advice?

Step 1 - Download the Living Rulebook
Step 2 - Read the Living Rulebook
Step 3 - Realise the Bloodbowl Universe and the Warhammer Universe are two separate universes
Step 4 - Get some friends together so you can all learn to play the game together and start a league.
Step 5 -
Step 6 - Profit

That's all you need to know, I think. In the teams' section in the rulebook it says which teams are best for beginners and wot-not; equally, if you are very new to the game it might be an idea to use just the "basic rules" for the first few games just to get used to the game mechanic before going on to do all the fancy stuff; there are some quite convoluted rules I feel.

The local gaming club I joined last week has 11 listed Blood Bowl players, so no problem there.

There's also quite a few leagues out there, see if there's one near you.  You can also find lots of downloads available to help you make your own instead of buying it somewhere.

I'm working on building a Dungeonbowl game, virtually same rules.

The beauty of it is you can use whatever mini's you like as well as most of the leagues aren't GW sponsored. 

There's definitely 3 tiers of teams, with some much more likely to win while others are destined to be 'the opponents' ie "Stunty" teams (Halflings, gobbo's etc).  Do not start with these ones.

Very addictive game though.  I've never played it without laughing.

I'm looking at converting a Skaven team, what tier would you say they're at?

Middle.  Other than the ratogres they're pretty fragile.  I've played against them twice using my Dwarfs.  First half they scored once, second half they were undermanned and I scored twice.  Second game wasn't even close as I just chewed him up.

They have a lot of dirty tricks however.  All offensive no defense.

Very fast, lots of tricks, no defence, all attack.

And I've started getting alright at painting brown, earthy colours.

Halflings.
You need to play Halflings.
Truly a team that builds character.
 

(personally, I think the Chaos Dwarf team is very cool).

My Skaven team was painted enchanted blue. It still is. It looks very fetching. If I remember correctly from 4th edition, it's quite hard to start out with Skaven; they aren't very "strong" and so will easily get pwned by the brutish masses on the scrimmage (?) line. But NOTHING beats the feeling of getting the ball to your gutter runner and getting a touch-down in one turn...

What about Orcs?
One of the guys at the club happens to be selling them, what do they play like?

The Gobbos are the stars of the Orc teams, chainsaws and dirty tricks to be proud of. The Skaven are probably better though, if you get it and run like hell they are ok. Halflings get treemen And you can throw them!

I've never actually played bloodbowl, but I have a painted dwarf team. And it is awesome.

I bet they'd win all their games. If they ever had any.

Only losers actually try to win. I just try to maim as many opponants as possible. In the long run it works out better.
