Well to be honest all we do is offer advice, its your warband and of course it will be modeled to suit your playing style,

my list was different to yours in the fact i went for the same amount of men but i had 2 more swordsmen and some men did not have 2nd weapons. kind of a trade off but I'm curious how you found the extra 2 marksmen, and did you split them into 3 groups of 2? or two groups of 3?

For mine i had 2 groups of 2 marksmen covering the two melee groups.

1 consisting of Captain, youngblood, champion and a swordsman. Other had the 2nd champion, youngblood and 2 swordsmen.

In a campaign I'd buy 2 more marksmen with normal bows / blunderbuss's prob and use them to move in behind the melee groups and  shotgun some enemy to the floor which the melee heroes could take out.

For your team I'd try to get one of the marksmen promoted and if your lucky you could get to the point where he could have a crossbow or long rifle and works as your deadly lone sniper who stays far enough away to worry about combat.

Mordheims a great game I'd love to play it more, especially as you can interlink the games with your WHFB's if you play it in villages or out in the wilderness like 40k kill teams.

As in the mordheim battles are small squads from your army working to fulfill an objective to make the WHFB easier on your main army aka commando style

So basically im in the same situation like Soth. We are starting a campaign tomorrow.

But im playing undead instead of Reiklanders.

My list is the following:

Vampire with a mace and sword.

Necro with dagger

3 naked dregs

6 zombies
2 ghouls
2 direwolves

The idea is currently to use the vampire, ghouls and direwolves as hammers while zombies tie down the enemies. The really big downside is that im really vunerable to missile fire.
The dregs are just to survive and get some experience and help exploring. any advice?

You have too many zombies could stand to lose one or both of the wolves as well.

I'm just going to keep hammering the split your promotable henchmen up into single model 'groups' and get that Lads got Talent advance.  Ghouls are your only chance for this so take 4 or 5 and a couple of zombies for fodder.

Dregs will advance quickly and become quite formidable as well.  Your band will always suck at shooting but that can be remedied depending on the hired swords your group allows.  I always start with a warlock and an ogre bodyguard.  Pricey but the big guy will take hits for your more valuable heroes.

Sadly zombies are slow and are more suited to guarding a shy necromancer or shooty dreg than offensive maneuver.  In the beginning I just send the zombies out to be shot and rout when I can against the shooty warbands.  Income and advances are the key to a long warband life. :icon_twisted:

I had thought of using a warlock! But he will be bought later in the game i think.

Hmm ill try to squeeze in another ghoul at the cost of a zombie.
Should i give the dregs weapons?

Yes I didn't mean to imply he should be bought with starting funds.  I mean they are the first hired swords I consider and I usually don't buy any until I have my heroes sorted out.  Or roll 3 6s during exploration...:icon_cool:

For weapons for the Dregs--clubs,hammers or maces to start or just another dagger.  My group plays with the Optional Critical Hit tables and the Edged Weapons are murder.  :icon_twisted:

Ah yes I thought of hireing a warlock as the first priority to give me some more firepower.

Yes maces were my first thought as well.

But i suffered some hard casualties yesterday in our first game.
A zombie, direwolf and a ghoul were taken out of action and NONE recovered! ... i luckily got a zombie when rolling for exploration but. damn thats still 90 gc out of the window...
But atleast i was fairly lucky with the necros spell, he got Call of Vanhel

i think the dire wolves are a good choice, they may not beable to climb but a group of 2-3 move fast and can hit a flank or circle round behind a warband making the player really loose focus on your main assault or plans.

I'm not sure about undead since i'm the typical goodie goodie player who only plays humans or good / neutral sides.

Don't hire special chars unless your warbands almost maxed up, relying on them so early can criple your income and ability to expand.

But but... 2 spells! :P

Hmm direwolves are just so expensive and vulnerable.

From my experience Dire Wolves are overpriced for their effectiveness. Buy ghouls at least they may contribute before being killed.

The Warlock is a 15 gc drain for 2 spells that might help you out.  15 is only a zombie, so its negligible unless you want that double handed weapon and can't afford it.  I always spend the money, but hey, I don't understand economics!

So, this thing with everyone having double maces: Is it really that good? Because it sounds terribly boring.

Rufes, yes and yes. Sadly the mordheim rules are lacking in places. There are rules for things you never do (jumping from the third story...) and other rules are unbalanced. (Armour way too expensive, cheap maces better than axes and too cheap compared to swords, spears and everything else; warbands are not well balanced versus each other.)

But all in all it is a fun game!
Just another imperial minotaur.

as moxer said it is indeed, 6gold gets you two attacks with no 6+ save like a dagger suffers and also can stun. for 10g your only getting a parry chance on a 6 instead for a sword.

axes only get better if ouyr enemies are armouring up and even then its kind of late on.

a small suggestion could be to make armour much cheaper, but thats another topic. this ones about Soths reiklanders of winning

That's a shame. I'd have thought something like that would have been fixed by now.  :icon_sad:

By the way, is it totally crazy for a Marienburg captain to start out with a brace of dueling pistols? It's quite expensive. But awesome. And flufftastic.

Hehe I would do that Rufus! They are harder to acquire later on when you start playing. So buy!
Pistols are awesome in mordheim, since they still shoot in the first turn of combat like in 6th edition.

Excellent!

The double-pistolling captain model is just too good.

I would use this as my decoy:

Well, not intentionally, but if I play Mordheim I will have a minor member of my warband holding a giant sign with that picture on it.

At least it's not a picture of Thatcher.

Ironically, I use that above pic as my spray on Team Fortress 2, and Thatcher is next to be used.

Don't tempt me.
