Building sizes.

What foot print people giving buildings. I'm thinking 5 inches squared or something like that. Roughly the same size as an infantry regiment

Would that not depend on the building?

Barn, cottage, farmhouse, hut, church etc, could (should?) all be quite different?

I'm more thinking how much space do buildings normally take up on the gameboard.
So a small house might take up only 1/2 the space etc

Maybe a massive building is twice or three times the space etc.

Rulebook says 2-8" counts as 1 terrain piece. 8-12" counts as 2 terrain pieces.

I know but I'm not sure if that is a edge or squared. I assume a piece that is 8 inches along one edge and 8 inches deep counts as more than 1 terrain piece or is it  just one.

Could I, as a wood elf, bring a forest which is that size?

It says width. ....they could have used "radius or diametre" but they did not. So squares are fine.

I suppose this means in something like 2/3 of the board could be covered in terrain

If both players choose to place the biggest squares, then sure.
