Mounted Monsters, Where to Find
« on: May 01, 2022, 06:08:27 PM »
Boy, it's been a long time since I visited here!

I've been revisiting my ever unfinished Empire army of no specific edition and realized I have a couple character models with no warhorses to mount them on. I also realized I have no monstrous beasts either.

Does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes monsters suitable to mount GW style minis on? Preferably with some kind of saddle or harness? Gryphon, pegasus, manticore, whatever. 3D printed ones would be fine too. Tracking down old GW ones is an expensive pain and I was never too much of a fan of most of them.

A simple google search will lead you to 3D printed options.

There are plenty of Empire models on Ebay too.

I'm considering selling off around 3000+ unpainted Empire minis, many in original packaging (lots of metals in blisters!).  I hope I don't regret it.

The problem is that there are so many choices. I was hoping anyone might have suggestions. There's a lot to go through and it's not always clear how well they might work for my purposes. It's great advise though, using google. I'll keep it in mind. Thanks.

You'll regret selling them about as much as you would regret not selling them.

Be very selective in selling.  With some the value will go up over time.

And don't forget to let us know what you're selling here! :icon_mrgreen:

Check out the Ninth Age Miniatures section:
https://www.the-ninth-age.com/community/lexicon/index.php?lexicon/467-empire-of-sonnstahl-eos/

Click the different characters, and the page will show you a selection of miniatures from different manufacturers that would fit that model, including all the mounted options.

It's not concise, and I think they only focus on real models, not 3d printable stuff. But I think it's exactly the kind of work you want to avoid, readily done for you.

For STL's, I'd ask around in FB, as the still active Empire-players, incl. the younger generation and printer-enthusiastic people are there.

This is the most active Empire-specific FB group.

Thanks Zygmund! The Ninth Age Minis page is pretty useful though there are a lot of broken links.
I'm not averse to searching for myself. Just making sure I don't miss that perfect mini I want. If I find it, I'll make sure to put up a link in the Miniatures Comparisons thread.

Just noticed something today in the new toy store that's opened in my town.
Schlei [not sure if that's spelled right] make a lava scorpion and ice bear. They'd make great stand ins for large monsters

Schleich is the company you mean, probably.
Now go! Ride towards the sun atop these noble steeds
You're our spandex heroes, now fullfil your destinies
And so we turned and rode beyond the castle walls
with shiny codpiece armour that doth cradle our chivalrous balls
