Topic: What Do You Field Against THESE Guys?

So a buddy of mine is getting into Warhammer and is all geeked up about his Chaos Warriors with the mark of Khorne.  From the way he's describing them, they get two attacks (A2) right outta the box, then he can upgrade them to carry an additional hand weapon for a third attack ... and THEN upgrading them to the Mark of Khorne gives them Frenzy, so they're immune to Panic and you can slap on another attack ...

That means these guys are hitting with four attacks apiece?  So 5-wide, 2-deep, front rank and supporting rank — you're talking 10 models fighting with 4 attacks apiece ... or 40 total attacks these guys can throw down each round?! 

And these guys fight with WS5 S4 T4 I5 Ld8 (!)

Granted, you're talking 46 points a model or 460 points to muster that group of ten  ...

But what do you throw against those guys that won't get chewed up and left in bloody ribbons in their wake?  Do you just pound them with cannon fire and hope to thin 'em out before they reach you?  Do you charge them with a block of 30 swordsmen and a pair of flanking detachments and a BSB and just hope you roll well enough to thin out a few of them before your ranks evaporate in a mist of flying gore?

Unless those warriors are MI(Monstrous Inf), they can support with just one attack, no matter how many they have it. If they are, they can support with 3.
So, IF he manage to have 4attacks per model, in 5x2, he will have 25 attacks.
But, don't worry. Additional weapon means no shield, and frenzy means baiting. They hit hard, but suffer same. Str 5 is laughable for DKG. And for 460 points you can field 6 DGK, with full command, and steel banner. Or 2 regiments of 3, both with full command, but with no banners. AS 1+ wins against those, no matter how many attacks they have.

You (or your opponent) might have misread the army book. Chaos warriors (CW) cost 15point/model, and +1 point for additional handweapons.. The Mark of Khorne comes at 30point/UNIT.

So 10 CW with the mark and add. hand weap. wil cost him 10 x (15+1) + 30 = 190 point. Full commands at another 30 point for a total of 220 point per unit. So it is alot cheaper than you stated.

Still it's 220 point with 10 wounds.

Below is a small example which can be boosted by e.g metal lore, that you would run anyway against CW.
 
20 handgunners are 180 and will most likely get to shoot:
1 x at long, 1 x at short, 1 x at S&S, that's 20 x 0,33 + 20 x 0,5 + 20 x 0,33 = 23 hits, that wounds on 4+ = 11-12 and saves on 6+ =9-10 = dead warrior unit before CC..

Volleygun can easily do the same and for less point, but is less reliable.

And incidentally, what I take against these guys . . . is a pair of Helblasters and an Engineer!  MASS CARNAGE!
