Have always had to be content with how I paint in the current moment. That isn't always fun because I'm not a high end, nor high experienced painter. However, not expecting a lot of myself, in terms of quantity and quality, keeps me mentally balanced as I move forward with the projects.
Also, I reserve some time for watching painting videos on youtube. Whether short or longer, some are better than others. Regardless, sometimes I pick up small ideas for future use, sometimes I find it is good to watch them more than once, and sometimes I am reminded of other ideas when watching different ones.
Learning a skill is typically works best by giving myself time, allowing myself to make mistakes, slowing myself down, and coming back to some items later. And painting in batches like I do, provides for painting one color at a time on several to a dozen figures at once, and some figures come out better than others, or I make mistakes and have to come back and fix eventually.
