Light armour +1pt

What for? It's useless.

Then why give it to any troop? Its all state troops get anyway! Are you saying whats the point in giving it to spearmen, halberdiers, swordsmen etc?

And it isnt useless, it works, sometimes, which is fine for me

It's useful in combination with a shield. By itself, it is almost useless and certainly not worth paying extra for.

There is a -huge- difference between 6+/5+/4+. After 4+ slightly less so.

Your chances of passing an armor save against a successful S3 wound double, then are 1.5 times higher, each time.

And S4 robs you of an armor save with just light armor, whereas it doesn't with a 5+/4+.

S4 does indeed rob you of a save, but S3 doesnt, loads of things in WFB only have S3 though, which means that there is that chance of making the save, +1pt = totally worth it.

But there are tons of things with S4 as well :D.

I'd argue that that is the key difference between the 6 and 5+. The ability to have a save versus S4.

It's probably ok to provide options that allow folks to make choices.  If one player doesn't want to use it, that's fine, and if another player does not, that's fine, too.

To be honest, I think FC don't need fixing. At all.

Agreed.

Empire v goblins, empire, bretonians, DoW, lizards, mortals of chaos, dwarves  - all would benefit from the 6+ save in most cases

6+ is an infinite improvement over no save.
5+ is a one in 6 improvment over 6+
etc.

I am not saying make it compulsory, just optional at +1 point, you dont need to take, it, I always would.

I'm in favour of giving them the option of a pistol or great weapon in exchange for their extra hand weapon. Armour matters little to me regarding free company.

Pistols would actually also be additional handweapons  it would be sweet even though it should be quite pricey I think duellists for 9 points are fine so free company also should be around those points...perhaps 8 points a pop.

Duellists skirmish, though, and can shoot.  Free company at 8 points is the same cost as all of our missile troops without the added bonus of being able to shoot.  I don't think much needs to be changed with them outside of maybe giving them a couple of options for weapons and maybe light armor, at most.

And even then it's sort of messing with it just for the sake of having fun.

But wouldn´t you like Duellists and wouldn´t they fit into the empire theme and fighting style.

They are indeed ideal as they are apart from giving the back the option to take light armour (not even something new, they had it and it was cruelly robbed from them!)

Deullists would be great as a rare/special choice.

Seems, basically, what we want is an amalgamation of the Dogs of War army list and the Empire one?

Actually, what I want is a proper Tilea/Estalia army book seperate to the Empire, but thats not gonna happen.

All you need to negate rank bonus (while hitting the flank) is to have US 5.  It doesn't matter the formation.  Working in 3x3 is also easier to maneuver and protect from enemy charges.  Some people even go so far as to say it looks prettier too. :icon_biggrin:

And, to be honest, trying it with free company can cause more combat rez for your opponent than the ranks you negate with the Free Company.  :eusa_wall:

Better just to use swordsmen for melee detachments.
