Title: Heroquest 1.0 furniture
Post by: Henerius on October 03, 2018, 07:36:14 AM
A bit nostalgic I have to say that I started with Age of Sigmar and as a pun I am using models from Heroquest and Battle Masters.
While unboxing my Heroquest Minis I found the furniture stil on the sprue and the cards unpunched off two sets.

So I started painting these sets adding to the one set of the original first box painted 25 / 30-ish ( ? ) years ago.

It has been a fun project and I hope you enjoy it too.

The only thing better than Heeroquest is more Heroquest

I stole, (well feels like stole) my copy from a garage sale 20 years ago for 50 cents.  Original price was a buck but was missing 2 dice so the owner shrugged and said, "Well, if you still want it, I will reduce by half".  My heart was screaming, but I calmly said "Sure".  When I rounded the corner I was literally, yes literally, shaking as I ran home.  Played 3 scenarios with friends that night.  I have a separate box containing all the extra mini's I've collected for campaigns.  I sometimes combine with my original Mutant Chronicles for different maps.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago.  My friend put his still-on-sprue version in the auction at our annual game convention.  $180.  Fully painted (high standard) went for $200+ a couple years ago.

This is the one game I hope they never re-release, it would ruin it.  The mystique this game has is irreplaceable.  Its the rare and dusty box in the corner of game fanatics.  Or its in the back closet long forgotten, waiting to be discovered by grandkids visiting for the weekend.  There is no other game that has that history.

Still, for all its very minor faults, one of my favorite all time games to play.  I clearly remember playing at a "friend of a friend's" house in 1988 and wondering what sorcery was this that put D&D into a board game so well.

Wonder - who started their foray into painting mini's by experimenting on HQ?  I really like what you've done here.  Feels right.

I bought Heroquest 1.0 when it came out, that's the early 90's I guess, after box 1.0 they brought box 1.1 on the market.

In that box where several mercenaries you could hire with youre heroes once you had played three games (and survived).
In box 1.1 also a map with an adventure that spans 4 gameboards of Heroquest.  Though the real idea was play a part of the dungeon and the start over in the new dungeon... that's not what I had in mind.  So I went back to the shop and bought 2 more boxes of the 1.1 version.

The scenery you see is of four boxes and it isn't even enough to play the big scenario :)  ....

I am converting the models to 20mm and 25mm bases (I don't care how vintage or valueable it is) so I can use these for....  Age of Sigmar. Further more I am pimping them a bit so the entire game on picture.. somewhere next year or so. :)  or in 20 years  :engel:

I played my first game of Age of Sigmar with Heroquest and Battlemaster Empire models and the grognards at the club wept away many tears in remembrance of good old times, like old farths just have to do.  :biggriin:

I found a badly damaged copy of Battlemaster ten years ago at a charity shop [I paid $2.00 AU for it]. Most of the models were damaged in some way ;either through heavy handling, frequent use or being stuck in a dusty old attic with who knows what on top of them. I repaired and repainted them as best I could and incorporated them into my existing armies.

It was also about 20 years ago, a friend of mine got a copy of Space Crusade which we used to play almost every weekend. He wasn't the best opponent as he used to cheat so badly.

Lovely.  I have this game because i acquired it from a friend who was going to sell it at a yard sale for like $3.  It was open and used but in great shape.  I'm playing the starter campaign with a co-worker now.

I have some random parts laid around from my original copy.  I wish I had taken better care of it, especially since I got the expansion Return of the Witch King as well.

The nice thing about this game too is there're a lot of resources online still available.

I've not had a Heroquest experience.  Seems like folks have had fun!  The furniture being painted looks great!

Hope to see more from this adventure. :icon_cool: :::cheers:::
