Well, since they are not as scrawny as my siege towers...

No. I think I'll have to leave them at home :-) WHL Soth talked about having a few commisioned, though, so I might have to bring some anyway.

All you other guys; Thanks for the compliments!  :::cheers::: Your cheers are the culmination of every project and spurs my creativity to new heights!

And a few answers to questions:
  • Grab pen and paper and do some concept artwork
  • Pick the good bits and make a foam core and styrofoam set of boxes. There are a few good tricks when folding and adjusting foamcore which may be useful.
  • Grab a plank of 1.5mm balsa wood and cut some strips. Apply.
  • Either scratch build or use ready made windows.
  • Make brickwork by cutting into the polysterene and widening the gaps with a pen. Use a sharp knife or the foam will tear. Then use a rock with good surface and press it into the foam to mirror it's texture
  • Cut twice as many tiles as you think you'll need for the roof. Then make three times that. It should be enough for half the roof. Glue.
  • Paint it black.
  • Apply drybrushes of good colors to everything. Don't be too careful as the houses look better when worn.
  • Reap the admiration of your peers!

Cheers, guys! Next up will be a subterranean table add-on!

Well, I've started my next project, the underground table terrain. The theme is a Skaven burrow on an isolated part of the Dwarf Highway. Thus the many tunnels merge with the large tunnel in the middle, allowing for armies to fight each other with relative ease.

It is made from a single block of polystyrene, cut with my hot wire cutter

Here's the whole table

And a little detail, for scale and texture.

Great idea, but there seem to be a little too many small tunnels if you know what I mean.

Agreed. It will proabably look better the way you have it now, but if you widen the main road and make the skaven tunnels larger the table would probably be better to play on.
I agree with the inhumane treatment of animals.

Aaah, but that's the fine print in the Crow's song! All pieces will be loose, so you could easily rearrange or remove pices 8 and 12 (straight ones) to make the tunnels wider. The board it's lying on isn't the final one, and it's not wide enough. The Dwarf road will be 24" across.

So the Skaven tunnels will really only dictate deployment positions and space, which is sure going to cause some chaos for the players  :-) It's going to be chaos and swirling meelee, just as it should be!  :smile2:

If you get any good ideas of details, feel free to drop them as I've yet to think of something better than dwarf pillars and rocks.

Pitfalls in the road created by tunnelling skaven or a collapsing floor?

Crazed half emerged skaven drills? Crashed Dwarven mining carts? Piles of dwarf/goblin skeletons? Dwarven barricades along the road? Dwarf hoards or chests? Goblin squig Pits? I hope this is of some help.

Those are some fine ideas :-) Thanks!

An update on the model front; After some collecting, ebaying and gathering I've amassed enough bodies to extend my halbardier and spearmen regiments to 50 men and handgunners to 40. Horde time! With this addition my infantry batallions just passed 200 models :-) Only, now I have to find 25 halberd heads for converting all the spearmen.

And paint all those rank-and-file troopers... Sigh.

I found a very good way to keep one motivated in painting is to place a plush animal on your laptop and promise it not to use the computer until the models are finished. Works very fine, and thus far I have not broke my... oh. Wait. Forget that.

Finished the spearmen today. It went a lot faster than I thought it would, but then again, they won't win me no prizes.

I started making the walls of the underground terrain as well. Might get a picture of that when finished.

I guess RnF troops at table top quality isn't very interesting, so here's some terrain instead :-)

The subterrain has been given some rock wall to represent the dwarven stonework which the Skaven tunnels obviously had to break through.

And the tunnel walls have been painted and textured.

Good work on the spearmen, while tabletop ready may not visually stunning to most, I am always impressed when I get to see a unit that is finished.

The underground tunnels are looking fantastic, good work and keep it coming.

Well, I just finished the tunnel system, but I'm afraid I'll not be able to supply proper images until saturday, when it will be played for the first and only time :-) That is also when it will unite with the board I made it for. I still don't know if I got the tones right :-)
But here are a few pics from the painting studio!

If I feel like it, I'll be adding a few dwarf statues and perhaps a fungal forest, but I've run out of S5010-Y10R, so they might not come into existance...

Well, that's my sneaky psychological attack! :icon_twisted: When playing in sweden, everyones' main concern is defiling the danish banner, and so they leave my vulnerable units alone as I close the trap!

Anyway, as I finished the underground and didn't feel like painting umphteen more RnF I decided to start on the other terrain project for the big battle on Saturday; The Maw of the Grey mountains! There are 6-7 pages of fluff explaining the intricate intrigue which causes 10000 points of goblins clash with as many ogres, tzeentch to go solo, elves to teleport and lizardmen to to take the tunnels to the lair of the Skaven. If anyone's interested, I can link to it after the battle, but here's the Maw!

I hate to have to be the one to break it to you, but the great maw is quite alot bigger than you have made it.

ABout the same size as a quarter of Tilea.

Yes but you have to remember that the scale isn't exact for our models either. They represent many more then are on the table, a simple abstraction. So why not abstract the maw to that size as well... That said awesome job Shadow!
"Hope" is not a strategy.

You are quite correct in your observations, but you are yet mistaken! This is not the MAW, but the Maw of the Grey Mountains, an ogre site of sacrifice, which is really the exhaust of a Skaven Warpstone condenser. It does a great many things, like sucking you to eternal doom and puking out massive amounts of warpstone dust. If the High elves cannot stop the Daemons of Tzeentch from overloading the warpstone condenser through the monolith of Kirimon-Rah, it will fall upon the Lizardmen led by the seer Taq'ala to teleport to the Skaven tunnels and fight their way through the verminous hordes, and should even they fail 10000 goblins will be used to choke the exhaust in a great battle against the Ogres worshiping the Maw, and should even this fail, the Skaven device will explode in a gargantuan green mushroom cloud, evaporating everyone nearby and covering half the Old World in a thin but fatal layer of warpstone dust.

Phew. That's what the battles tomorrow are about, anyway. In short terms.  :::cheers:::
