The End Times Books - Do I have to read them all?
« on: September 04, 2016, 03:49:29 PM »
I am currently looking at reading some of the End Times books but I do not usually have much time for reading. I am particularly interested in the chaos and specifically Archaon stories of the end times and was wondering if all the books follow (or have parts that follow) the same storyline or are separate pieces of one grand story? Ideally I will read them all eventually but I just want to know for now if it is necessarily required that I read them in order?

No you do not have to read them all

Here is a list in what order they should be read but you can skip them. Each book is "supposed" to be stand alone.

    Archaon, Everchosen (2390 - )
    Archaon, Lord of Chaos ( - 2519)
    QR: Sigmar's Blood
    QR: The Bone Cage
    QR: With Ice and Sword
The Return of Nagash (late sum 2522 - erl wint 2524)
The End Times I: Nagash Part 1
Gotrek & Felix: Kinslayer (aut 2524 - erl spg 2525)
QR: Marienburg's Stand (erl wint 2525 - erl wint 2525)
The Fall of Altdorf (late wint 2524 - erl wint 2525)
The End Times II: Glottkin Part 1 (spg 2525 - aut 2525)
QR: The Siege of Naggarond (223 - )
    QR: Bride of Khaine (223 - )
    Deathblade (wint 2523 - aut 2524)
The End Times III: Khaine Part 1 (wint 2524 - wint 2526)
    The Curse of Khaine
The Rise of the Horned Rat (aut 2523 - aut 2527)
The End Times IV: Thanquol Part 1 (aut 2523 - aut 2527)
QR: Gotrek & Felix: Rememberers (wint 2526 - wint 2526)
Gotrek & Felix: Slayer (erl spg 2527 - erl sum 2527)
    The End Times V: Archaon Part 1 (spg 2528 - aut 2528)
Lord of the End Times (aut 2527 - aut 2528)

I have read the fall of Altdorf because I wanted to know how the different colleges of magic would handle the attack, SPOILER to my disappointment, there is very little magic described, mostly in the background and mostly very big, like the rot that is happening all over the world. But there wasen't so much magic fighting described or what happened to each college as it was attacked. END SPOILER

A fair bit of the stuff in the first few books is suppose to be happening more or less at the same time, just in different places. They're fairly self contained.

It is best to read none of them.
It is not enough to have no ideas of your own; you must also be incapable of expressing them.

I'd say you have to read them all, multiple times. There is so much going on in the big ET books it's hard to keep things straight in your head.

LIST OF AWESOME

Thanks, that's useful for tracking down the novels.

There may be a synopsis of the plot lines somewhere online if you are after the headlines.

I like various bits along the way.

SPOILER
Demons and tree spirits, lady of the lake, elf merge, Balthasar a necro, that tomb King guy going to chaos, there were cool twists.
I thought lizards, o&g, ogres, dwarves all too absent though.

I was a bit saddened myself by the dwarf bits. Parts of it were good and grim and heroic last stands, but other parts seemed like getting rid of them to get them out of the way, rather then giving them a good last hurra.

But I'm sure we've all gone over them plenty enough.

There's a good, if less serious, summary over on 4chan.
