The Baseball Writers Association are a joke, what with no one getting into the Baseball Hall of Fame....

I am of course particularly pissed that the greatest hitting catcher of all time, one Mike Piazza, got less votes for the fine invented narrative of Jack Morris....

I've never understood why they leave Hall of Fames up to writers to run. They're always overly focused on narrative and postseason play (at least for football, which is the only major sport I follow). I feel they should be run by a committee of some sort, that actually has some sort of objectivity.

A great example. Ray Lewis is being tauted as possibly "the greatest lineback ever"; I've even seen "possibly the greatest defensive player ever." Fletcher, however, is usually referred to along the lines of "a solid player that's been doing it forever." I think the key difference may be Lewis's knack for grabbing the spotlight, as well as his higher college pedigree and draft status...all variables which I think should have little to nothing to do with getting into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Yeah I have no clue on the NFL stuff but I do understand they are not much better. Looking back from a few months ago when Vikings Punter Chris Kluwe had a rant on the continued exclusion of Ray Guy from the NFL hall of fame I dug up his Deadspin column:

"You preach intellectual sloth and apathy and the all too popular creed of "I can't be bothered to understand something but I'm going to render judgment on it anyway" that sometimes seems woven into the very fabric of our society. As you smugly guard your gate to the secret clubhouse, you never even stop to consider the underlying message you're sending to an entire generation of football players—a message that lies completely at odds with the stated intent of the game you cherish so much."

Basically the same issues the Baseball hall has these days.

Although I sense a bit of relief that her pain is over, it's always hard to lose a loved one.

brother called out of work because he was sick and went to the hospital. he brought a doctor note and the management said the doctor's note legitimizes his reason for being out but did not excuse his absence. While at the doctors that day they hired an old employee back, and promptly fired my brother the next day.

he asked why and they said because of the absence and also for being 50 minutes late one day a few weeks ago. The only reason he was late was because they changed his schedule without telling him and his copy proved that. They then said it came up from HR and that nothing could be done. BS because I used to work for best buy and that only happens if management tells HR they are going to fire someone.

talking to my dad apparently there was more going on. My brother has been calling out a lot and showing up to work late too much too (partying too much) and he has broken and fried some of the work's equipment too.

So me and my buddy are in deep trouble. We haven't showed up for Army PT for close to 6 months, it's no fun when you are split-ops they just tell you what you already know 200 times. There will being smokings waiting for us on Wednesday
