Anyone know any games that involve using WW2 model planes?

Thanks Finlay.  I actually heard this was OOP, as I had seen it mentioned in the Xwing forums I visit.

Ideally I would want a game where I could paint my own planes though!   :-D

I don't know if this is the same game I've played, but a guy from my old wargaming club used to run a game called "Mustangs" using 1/144 scale WWII planes.

A while ago I bought the starter set for Axis & Allies Angels 20. It looked like a good game, but unfortunately real life stuff like work & family have killed wargaming for me, so it's still sitting in the box after my initial read-through of the rules. The planes are pre-painted, but could be repainted if you wanted. (Same with Wings of Glory.) My plan was to use telescoping stands for the planes to actually show altitude relationships (not to scale, obviously) the same way we do/did with Blue Max/Canvas Eagles for WWI aviation gaming.

My comments on the A&A game when I got it:

The telescoping stands I mentioned:

Andy Chambers has one coming soon called "blood red skies"

I got to see it demoed at Dropship Games in Glen Burnie, MD. Seems cool, the board they played it on was very nifty. Pictures on Dropzone's Facebook.

Doesn't Flames of War use planes?
Those are unpainted.

Yeah, Flames of War uses planes, but really they aren't really necessary to use planes in the game. The game really isn't about them.

I was the one that mentioned it. Wings of War is the game I was talking about. It is the precursor to Wings of Glory. Wings of War was produced in conjunction with with Fantasy Flight Games. The original designer of  Wings of War took it back and then changed the name of it to Wings of Glory and updated the rules some. Wings of War was only WWI, Wings of Glory now includes both WWI and WWII. Wings of Glory is definitely in print.

It is sold pretty much like X-Wing is. They have a starter set of two planes and all the needed cards and other bits. Then you purchase individual ships with their accompanying cards and other bits. Their smaller planes are about $1 cheaper than X-Wing ships, but their bigger planes are about $5 more than the X-Wing large ships. The biggest difference between it and X-Wing is movement is handled by movement cards and you have to plot your moves out three turns in advance so reacting to enemy movements is much slower.

Thanks for all the replies.  It seems I am having a great deal of trouble convincing my group they want to play another model game though.  So this idea is on hold at the moment.

Even Xwing is looking like it will get abandonned.  Which is annoying when I have spent £250 on models!
