Sci-Fi Kickstarters ...
« on: August 27, 2017, 01:46:33 PM »
Here's one ...

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2076383099/the-legion-of-steel-28mm-sci-fi-space-dwarves-auxi?ref=category_newest

I like the looks of those, but not enough to purchase (too many other figures I'm painting currently).

They do seem to be growing their line of figures, and have offered some of their other sets as part of this Kickstarter.

Hmm I like most of them but I have a few things that bug me. I'm not fond of the humans weird triangle back packs and everyone seems to have really long legs, although that might just be the pictures.

I do kind of like the jeeps, and the humans general look reminds me of Halo ODST that I've always liked. I might get in on the kick starter for a few squads of infantry and a jeep. The aliens are pretty good, but other then as some home brewed pirate or Tau I don't have a use for them.

Back packs are ok, legs bugged me on the one figure in the comparison photo, and quality of figures once molded isn't looking as good as the pictures, although that's not surprising.  I do like the bikes and jeip, and they've already got past the stretch goal for the medivac jeip as well.  I probably would not use these for 40K, and instead some other skirmish style sci-fi rules.

I definitely want in on the Repto figures, and the length of legs doesn't matter to me with those.  Having 10 of them, they could be used for a Tau squad.  It seems a person can pledge for one figure, yet buy 10 of them which then makes the total pledge at 50 pounds.

Apparently with this doing well he is going to do more.

That's good to hear it's doing good enough to do more. They are nice figs. Your right that the legs on the aliens don't matter as much. I'm considering the med jeep because I like the thought of it for scenarios, or possibly in Kill Team/Necromunda games.

It seems one cool thing about the medivac jeip is that the guy on the stretcher will be removeable.

Hmm that's even better. Would be pretty easy to turn it into some kind of cargo jeep, or even put a gun there.

I've had an idea for awhile for a group of pirates, made up of humans and the more random alien models. It's not a kickstarter but if you've seen the Star Wars Legion miniatures I liked the look of the rebel forces, but they include a mix of aliens in the squads.

6 to 4.5 pounds per figure ($8 to $6 each) suddenly seems a bit expensive.  I would definitely try to get the price down to the lower amount if I pledge for this kickstarter.  It reminds me of GW pricing!

I do like the vehicles and Reptos, yet will probably just stick with getting some Reptos at most.

Especially with my increased interest for the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion figures also currently on kickstarter. :icon_lol:

The price of those figures is holding me back.

Under a day to go on the Overruners campaign, and I still haven't picked a pledge level. :icon_rolleyes:

In the meantime, here's a sci-fi building complex campaign ...

So I went for the one of everything pledge level. :icon_lol:

Couldn't resist the enthusiasm, and the idea of being able to have enough figures for a game, plus wanting to be able to share in the discussion of future figures for this line.

Space Orks ... in shorts no less ... thankfully no less  :icon_lol: ...

I might support this project, they look like ok sculpts, and would add a bit of new look to my ork collection.

How many WW2-themed space ork fan kits are there now? I know there are at least German orks and Soviet orks out there.

I've actually decided not to pledge for this kickstarter.

I haven't played 40K in so long, it doesn't make sense.  And I have other projects with a higher priority currently.

For those into Sci-Fi ...

It is tempting, yet I've got so much on my hobby shelves that need effort before I pick up a project like this.  If ever.

Came across this ... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/everythingepicgames/upzone-the-pop-up-wargaming-and-rpg-terrain-system

Their kickstarter campaign has gone past, although folks can still pre-order these.  I am tempted by the Ancient Zone, except it has inspired me with ideas for terrain to use with my homebrew Necrons.

I might try doing a pyramid structure in foam, but painting it more along the lines of the ideas being used for a sandstone color looking planet.  This color is also what I am painting my Warcry scenery, so perhaps could find mix and match uses as well.

Anyway, off that tangent ... I also like the Dungeon Zone terrain to use for 40K/Sci Fi on board space ships, yet don't really need the Cathedral Zone terrain.
