Has anyone tried to make their own leaves?
« on: March 17, 2016, 12:58:25 PM »
Has anyone tried to make their own leaves? Im been looking for some fallen leaves to use to base my beastmen, but all of the ones I see are expensive. I think I'll try making my own out of red, yellow, orange, and brown pieces of paper cut up real small, I know they wont be leaf shaped but  they would be small so maybe they wouldn't be noticed. What do you all think, has anyone tried this?

I tried making them from birch tree seed pods. There are a number of tutorials around. Basically, the pods crumble into small, vaguely leaf shaped pieces, which you dry out in the oven. I tried it, didn't have much luck (mine cumbled into tiny pieces of blah) so I ended up buying some. I forget where, but it was a decent price.

The shoe seller in this pic has a couple. I individually painted them in place, with autumn colors.

How about something like this:
Small leaf paper punch.
The leaves might be a little big, but the punch might work on foil also.

Seen it done using proper tea leafs, not from a teabag. Looked good, but not tried it myself.

Dried herbs? Depends on how much detail you are looking for and the amount you are wanting.

Good point, I used coffee as flock once and even after painted it green is still smelled like coffee for years, not a bad smell but every time I pulled them out I got a craving for coffee.

(( Hey DocJ,

What about cutting up aquarium plants to look like leaves?  You're not really making-them making them, but you're re-purposing them, I suppose. ))

GreenStuffWorld do a leaf punch, meaning you can punch small leaf shapes from a full size leaf
