A Video on 1st Impressions of Rules ...
« on: January 12, 2024, 11:59:42 AM »
Here is a video from a couple of guys who have already seen a copy of the rules ...

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bgE1gq_8Pw

This has a good bit of detail in it, and does give a flavor of what we're going to be seeing for the rules.

By the way ... it sounded like detachments are back, with counter charge or stand and shoot, and must be half the size of parent unit or less.

And it seemed that Empire isn't the only force that can use it.

That is interesting. I wonder which other races are meant to be as disciplined as Empire

From the leaks I’ve seen high elves and tomb kings have detachments.

Though in both these cases it’s just archers as detachments - not melee detachments

I can see high elves being disciplined and organised though in reality the high elf system seems to work like the ancient Greek militia system which did not promote disciple but courage

Yes, now my memory has been jogged a bit, Tomb Kings were mentioned in video as having detachments too.

Also, I generally found the video to be interesting, although a bit long.  However, there seems to eb a lot to cover, and it gave me the impression, even before their concluding comments, that the rule system is going to be a bit complex.  At least in the beginning when folks are learning it.

Seems they've based these rules off a 6th edition styling, except with making adjustments and adding a bunch of items to it.

I saw a different video of someone going through the dwarf book. Ironbreakers can take detachments of irondrakes so there's so least one example.

Well, there's a full chapter in the rulebook about detachments.Pages 252/253
All armies which have access to units with the special rule :"regimental unit" can have up to 2 detachments. Typically, these are armies with units which have or can have also the "drilled" special rule.

Detachment size : min 5 models; max.# 50% of the regimental unit it accompanies. No command unit/models.

A good deal of special rules, psychology etc. which I cannot repeat here ...but, in a nutshell, detachments are more interesting as they were in 8th. , AND the fact that quite a few other armies can have them too now,  may lead to way more battles with detachments than ever before.

Well done GW  :eusa_clap:

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out with the various armies.
