with the NEB release my local GW is doing an empire day with a conversion contest, speed painting contest and a free for all battle

now for the conversion contest i was working on a tracker (hes almost finished, just needs painting and then ill post some pics if anyones interested) but then i found out the model has to be made from the NE general box set, which is gutting seeing as i spent all of the last two nights on my tracker but anyway.

this is where i need help, in the free for all AfAIK (the GW dudes are sketchy at the best of times ) everyone who shows up will use there model and fight in a big battle, now im guessing that means everyone vs everyone so i need some help choosing some good equipment so advice, opinions and help with regards to tactics are appreciated

p.s there is no total points limit

general
pistol: if im unlucky enough to get charged my BS 5 means i should hit on 4's wound on 4's and then it depends whatarmour they have got
runefang: hitting on fours means 1.5 hits that can only be saved if the dude has a ward save, meaning this leaves little room for combat error
barded steed: for the armour boost and mobility
full plate armour
shield

this is my first draft what do you think?

should i swap the rune fang for the mace of helsturm and a ward save the mace increasing chances of a one round kill?

You are still limited by the points the hero can handle correct?
i would drop the runefang in place of a ward save and take something like a griffon ( why mount on a horse )

sorry for not being specific(the GW guys weren't) there is no total points limit, but the model has to be made from the NE general bow set

I'd go mounted, full armour, Lance, holy relic, Shield of the Gorgon and Ring of Volans.

i think they want it to be 90% of the general set, (so that basically means i could probably get away with a weapon swap but not the whole arm )

okay shield of the gorgan i can dig but wouldnt he need more umpf in CC than a lance. and wouldnt the ring of volans just get dispelled against the enemies basic two dispel dice?

If there is no limit to the number of points spent on magic items, then I suggest:

Full Plate, Pistol, Shield, Barded Steed, Runefang, Gilded Armor, Holy Relic, and Laurels of Victory.

If the fights don't use CR, then drop the Laurels for Doomfire Ring.

nah, there is the normal limit on magic items just not on the total cost including upto 100pts of magic items

Are the rules laid out clearly?
He has to be made from the General's box set, but what sort of character does he have to be?

A Grand Master
An Empire General (Elector Count)
An Archlector
A Warrior Priest
or ( and here's a possible sneaky one)
A Wizard or Wizard Lord.

I am just wondering "what if" someone turned up with a 'weak' character and the VHS.
or they make a GM with those 4 attacks and the I6.

Or can you make a model with the big hammer and 'claim' he's Karl Franz?

I suppose knowing GW staff capabilities in general (pun intended) I am thinking have they thought of these possibilities already, and if not should you tell them or should you be prepared for some arguments and lawyering.

not in the slightest whenever i have asked them they have always been very vague(sp?) lol

and im trying to come up with the best combo before saturday and im stuck between survivability and power

I mean is there a poster up advertising the competition.

Words like 'General' or 'Model' could be significant.

A general ( as opposed to an 'Empire General' or even a General ) can be a wizard, or a GM.

In the NEB the character is called 'General of the Empire'.
The BRB will talk about your army's general.

absolutely nothing is written down, it isnt a major tournement or anything.

AFAIK you use the general of the empire as AFAIK you need to use the model you converted

If it doesnt need to be a general take a level 4 wizard with AoMI and Sword on Might and Holy Relic. Then give him the VHS. You won't cast spells, but you'll win any challenge with ease.

Give him armour of tarnus and a barded warhorse, that way he can still cast spells with a somewhat decent save/wardsave

Make him an ArchLector on Barded Warhorse, Heavy Armour, Sheild, VHS and Mace of Helstrum.

Maximum attacks you will get at you will be 2 thanks to the VHS - not enough to kill (besides from a warhorse which you should be able to save). Cast the reroll hits / wounds prayer first to draw out dispel. You should be able to get the 4+ WS off. You have a rerollable attack at S10 doing D6 wounds first round (thanks hatred). Once you kill an enemy, you can heal your own wounds, and then cast the 4+ WS on yourself again, or reroll hits / wounds again.

Regardless you should be able to survive being charged and get your attack back thanks to the VHS, which should be enough to kill them. If they bought runefangs, they don't have Ward Saves. If they bought Ward Saves, they don't have the Runefang. Don't forget this.

If it is just Electors (Empire General Lord choices) then that sucks a bit...

Try the same thing, but instead of VHS, get yourself the White cloak. You may not survive however, and can't heal your wounds...

well i went back in today and they said it could be any hero choice based from the box so im between an archlector or a pegasus mounted general, or maybe even that mage combo mentioned above
