We were on a boat, it was windy, and her dress kept blowing up. Hence the creasing.
IA- Pretty much yeah. It was called the Global Young Leaders Conference. We heard a bunch of speakers (including one guy who has worked for the UN longer than it's been called the UN!) and did a couple different simulations.
Ah cool. I hope you waged theoretical global thermo-nuclear war. There is always one who wants theoretical global thermo-nuclear war in every model UN.
One sim was based on a subsidies dispute between Boeing and Airbus (actually happened in 2004). Another was a theoretical dispute over the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea. The final one was a wide open session of the UN General assembly.
The closest to what you're talking about is the Spratly Islands one. Which my group (Saudi Arabia) won (only group to get a virtually unchanged resolution through, everyone else got vetoed {Sim was of the UN security council}).
Actually, I have our resolution here. I wrote it...
Submitted To: The United Nations Security Council
Subject: The Crisis of Territory in the Spratly Islands
Proposed By: The Kingdom of Saudi ArabiaPreamble:
1. Having recognized and acknowledged the varying desires and viewpoints of the different states, we wish to present a solution for the current crisis in the Spratly Islands
2. Which shall start by defusing the current brewing hostilities among the Spratly Islands, then ensuring this resolution through the use of United Nations peacekeeping forces
3. then guaranteeing continued peace by defining exact territorial claims for each of the involved parties through continued negotiation at a later date.
Proposal:
We mandate the removal of non-UN military forces from the Spratly Islands within two (2) months of the approval of this resolution.
Send UN peacekeeping forces to enforce the above decree a further month after the above date if the above decree has not been followed by the affected countries. After a period of four (4) months, to allow tensions between involved states to die down, further negotiations will take place so that we can have a final resolution of the conflict, and ensure permanent peace and security for the region.
Summary
We propose the above solution so that we can ensure peace and security in the region of the South China Sea. First, ensure that no military conflict will break out, then later complete a final decision on the fate of the Spratly Islands.
023- I also do MYIG (Michigan Youth in Government). I've never formally done model UN though (strangely).
