They use epic models for Future War Commander here.

Anyone else have Sins of a Solar Empire? My roommates and I borrowed it from the internet this past summer and played some LAN campaigns. There was much shouting across the apartment. Apparently some people get mad when you glass the surface of their home world.
 :closed-eyes:

I almost got into 40k instead of Warhammer Fantasty. I was allured to the Imperial Guard. I loved the idea of having LOTS of men and the whole idea of the common man fighting for survival of humanity while beset by creatures more powerful. I played one battle using my friends guardsmen and almost got hooked. Then I saw that every one of my opponents was a whiny and competative 14 and had blue space marines or tyranids. The better crowd seemed to be at the other table playing with Warhammer Fantasy.

I love that game. Adore it.

Now if only I could get the damn thing to work on my new laptop...

I spent a few dozen hours happily engaged in all out warfare with one of my friends. A few dozen straight hours. Like 36. (We played on the biggest map, with us and I think 6 other civs, free for all. We didn't finish it in 36 hours.)

I am with Aldaris, the fluff for 40k is far better than fantasy.

Additionally, it is only grim and dark if you are the humans.  The orks are having a grand old time.  We race around various planets, take part in squig eating contests, and duff em all up.

That's a negatory good buddy.  The fluff is what's kept me from getting into it.  But IG are so uber awesome that despite the fluff they still tempt me.

I am not big on the WHFB fluff, but I like the 40k fluff less. I think it is all my fault though as I have never been much into Science fiction type stuff.

The Orks are very characterfull though and I love the orks who look like Commissars and Killa cans :icon_lol: :icon_lol: I love it!

Now I did read the Brotherhood of the snake by Dan Abnett and really liked th 40k fluff in there I just don't like anything that GW writes.

Try the Eisenhorn series. I just read them, they're very good (about an Inquisitor {Eisenhorn} and his descent toward radicalhood/Chaos. Also provide a glimpse into Imperial civilian life).

Second that. I bought the omnibus the other day, and they are fantastic.

You know I always preferred the Ravenor Series.

Yeah I don't like the black library novels, but I love Dan Abnetts work.

Abnett is about the only real reason to buy Black Library stuff. However, James Swallows novel, Faith & Fire, about the Sisters of Battle, also gives some ideas about the intrigues on an Imperial world, the power of the Ecclesiarchy and such.

But Abnett. He is the man. I must get around to buy the second Omnibus about Gauntīs Ghosts.

Oh, and remember GW made it personal, not you!

I'm currently reading the last book in the Aubrey/Maturin series. Best series of books ever created. Highly recommend you get them if you can (the movie with Russel Crowe, Master and Commander is based off the book series. I think I've found references in the film to book 16 in the series even though the movie is apparently based on the 1st book).

Ahead of you Ben. Read those ages ago... 3-4 years I think. Still have them somewhere.

If you like those, check out Bernard Cornwell. He's most famous for his Sharpe series, but his Arthur and... damn, forget the name of the series. It's about the Danish invasion of England anyway. Those are also quite good.

Nope, three books. I personally thought they were not quite as good as the Eisenhorn series, but still well worth it.
And as for Gaunts Ghosts: love 'em.

as wissenlander's nemesis, i've currently spent about $73 on ebay for:

200 guardians
2 seer councils
10 howling banshees
10 striking scorpions
10 warp spiders
10 swooping hawks
10 dark reapers
10 wraithguard
20 rangers
12 jetbikes
3 nightwing interceptors
4 war walkers
6 anti grav weapons platorms
12 falcon/ wave serpent grav tanks
1 storm serpent superheavy tank

silly cheap and diverse compared to the core games.

Something like that.  Considering the prices, Epic is the only way I'm getting into the 40K universe.
